Ok so my pin wasnt missing, I replaced it, and it still does this same rattly occasionally. I have the MPE.

I bought it second party, it still looks new and nice,I recorded my own video, think I can show it to dealer or I have to like actually buy it from them?

I have a rattle from 1500-2000 RPM, aftermarket exhaust so no clip. No idea wtf it is. I need to get it onto a lift to check.

So I have a different car than the one in my original post but this one was rattling even worse.

I finally convinced my dealer to replace the muffler and the noise from the flap is completely gone. Let's hope it stays this way.

My new problem is that the replaced muffler is not centered properly in the cutout so I will need to take it back.

I'm experiencing the same thing, stock exhaust on 2014 335i.

You can really hear it 13 seconds in.

It doesn't rattle every time I'm driving, but rattles at least once a day. I took the car to the dealer today and had the SA ride with me to try and replicate...which it didn't of course.

My F30 2015 335i has just started cold rattling. I was away for 5 weeks so the car was parked and it’s started after getting back. To say I’m miffed would be an understatement.

Having a hard time figuring this out is there a video o some instructions to get the clip back on?

I was fixing the same issue today by putting in new fixing bow in while the old one was missing. I think 3 screws which hold the actuator in place are pretty rusted and 2 of them where broken so the whole assembly was loose. I put it in and the rattle is gone but I think It will come back soon. Does anyone know what kind of screws they are so I can get them and put them on. BMW needs to make these parts with good quality stuff I think. Pretty much all the bolts, nuts and screws are badly rusted below my f30.

I have a rattle as well on my 2014 335i, it’s not only on cold starts though. I find that if it’s idle it gets worse, but when you just touch the gas (raise rpm from idle by like 100 rpm) it gets very loud. What could this be? It’s coming from the front underside of the car, so it doesn’t sound like the valve rattle.

Within the past two weeks I've developed the rattle, too. I imagine it's the flap inside the muffler? If I was to golf-tee mod it, would it go away?

I went to a different dealership and they confirmed that the rattle is caused by low refrigerant level in the a/c compressor. Got the car back today and haven't noticed any more rattling

420d GC rattling at 2k rpm and at low revs at standstill ?

I'm having an issue with my 20d in that when driving the other day I noticed that accelerating from 1700rpm ish to 2000rpm there is a vibration / rattle noise that can be heard with the windows down , with the windows up it's less noisy but the vibration sounds more like if the AC fans where ramping up and down in tune with my accelerator across the above rev range . Any way got under the car and it does sound like it could be the exhaust ( see link to video ) has anyone had this specific issue on a 420d ( I've seen petrol motors with blame being laid on VANOS seals etc but nothing for the 20d) . Just keen to understand what to look out for once I get it on the ramps .

Also I noticed my flexi coupling around the DPF is slightly warn .... not sure if that could be cashing the noise ?
