bmw special things to know on an oil change

first oil changing coming up on my 328d xdrive F31
anything special to know about BMW's vs other common brand cars?

ie, do you have to remove more stuff / shrouding?
do you have to do something special?
do you recommend using bmw oil?
filters... Mahle or Hengst ?
DEF fluid, how much do I have to add?

not sure what else to ask, but you know where i'm going, don't want surprises :-)

cheers

#1 recommendation: dont strip the oil drain plug; note your torque specs for your oil pan

If its like N55, there should be a flap to access the oil drain plug without removing the undertray.

Measure your oil level before you drain, measure how much comes out, and then you know how much to add based on capacity.

Fill the oil filter housing can up with about one of your quarts. Use a big giant clean funnel so you don't spill oil anywhere on your valve cover.

Use the torque wrench on the filter housing cap and the drain plug. It's not worth breaking or stripping or under tightening anything.

Curious. What does this mean? No dealer or no dealer you like? It’s pretty hard to screw up an oil change and $225 for at least three and possibly four oil changes is hard to beat.
