m340 touring

As per my post on quiet g20 board..
https://www.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=25300371

Has anyone seriously started looking at these yet as a replacement? Obviously need to wait until discounts start filtering though but they are available to order.

Not for me as my new car is due in about a week, but saw one at the PGA in tanzanite blue, which I think looks fantastic.

I will be looking at one seriously as a replacement for my F31 335d but, playing around on the configurator, my desired spec has a list price of around £57k and hence I'll be waiting until discounts get to F31 levels (i.e. 20% plus) before taking the plunge. Realistically I can't see that happening until next year but, as my car's still running well, I'm happy to bide my time until then!

Trying to talk the son in law into having one as his next car, if it will work on their scheme (which will tell you whether the discounts and residuals are lined up yet...)

Same here. Would like to get a 6-pot petrol before the eco-police have them banned forever, but can't justify that kind of money.

Haven't seen one in the flesh as yet, sat in a 330i saloon in the showroom and whilst the interior is definitely an improvement over my 2016 F31, some of the switchgear around the iDrive contoller felt a tad cheap.

For me the fugly grilles and a whiff of X3 around the Hofmeister kink are still a bit meh...

Relatively modest spec. on the configurator gets me to £53K - £8K in and £770pm at 7.9% apr. Aye, right....

I've got to say, that does look rather good in the pictures above. I can't decide whether I'd go for the blacked out grilles, but I think they only work on a black car or they look even more stark.

Still, if it was my money I was spending (and thinking of residuals / monthly PCP payments) I think I'd rather be in an X3 M40i

I accept looks are subjective but to my eye that M340i Touring in Tanzanite Blue is way more attractive than any X3!

Also, excellent thought the B58 engine undoubtedly is, I'm not sure an SUV is the best place to showcase its abilities - if you're going to have one of those I actually think the 40d makes for a better choice....

I think financially an X3 may be a better bet, and a 40d at that mainly because of residuals. For me, it has to be petrol whilst I can, and I think the Touring is a better drivers car than the X3 and just as practical, so it would be M340i if the finances worked out less...

My M5 is significantly less than that.... well £4.5k over 4 years...

Yes, regardless of how good it is IMO that's ridiculous money for a non-M 3-series; my powder will be kept dry until some decent discounts bring the purchase price back to a (relatively!) more sensible level.

Agreed but its the initial tree shake so no deposit contribution and high apr currently.

Let's see in the next quarter what deals are about. That tanzanite blue one does look nice even with the stupid grille.

Chap over on Pistonheads reckons you can get £9k off an M340i Touring if you take BMW finance; that equates to a discount of about 18% off the £50k list price for a standard car which seems pretty good for a new model. I thought it would take around 12 months before the F31 discounts of 20% plus started to appear but perhaps it won't take as long as that if 18% is available already?

I went on the BMW site last night, couldn't find any M340 models on there. What am I missing? TIA

See the post from numtumfutunch on the thread below (last but one on page 5); he doesn't say where he's got his figures from but I assume it's a dealer local to him?

Not sure what you're missing but the M340i models are definitely there (albeit the Touring only appeared in the last week!). Link to the M340i Touring on the configurator is below:

Saw an M340i saloon in a showroom last week. Wasn't overwhelmed tbh. The front end is fussy and not pretty, although the black paint with full black exterior trim went some way to disguise it. The rear is a bit anonymous for a beemer. The wheel arch gap was also noticeable, which is something I thought they'd fixed with the latest gen of xdrive? The interior was an improvement over the F3n cars.
The Touring would be good for me if the next 4GC is going to get the humongous grilles featured in the 4 Concept revealed recently.
It's a question of getting the least worst looking car with BMWs latest design language!! :

I am interested but as others have said they need to sort pricing out. I have had a new 320d m sport as a loan and as some said above I also felt some of the switch gear felt cheap. I especially noticed this around the drivers wing mirror and window controls.

A thought that has crossed my mind is even with a decent discount a new G21 M340i is going to be around three times the value of mine and it needs to be very good to justify that sort of additional outlay! Touching wood my F31 is still running very well at the moment and once it's had a major service later this month it's probably good for the best part of another two years without major expenditure on the mileage I do nowadays; therefore, if I'm not blown away by the G21, keeping the F31 for a bit longer is definitely an option!

yeh, I'll be hanging onto my F36 for longer than originally intended, I imagine
I'm usually pretty impulsive with cars but there's nothing in the current/forthcoming range (affordable range, I should say) which makes me grab my wallet

I think this is where Audi have the edge. A fully-optioned S4 Avant with absolutely every box ticked comes in at under £53K on the road, to get a similar spec on the 340 you're looking at more than £56K.

OK, the Audi is an oil-burner, is slightly slower off the mark and you could perhaps call the driving dynamics into question, but it beats the BMW hands down on interior fit & finish. And it doesn't look like it's had botox injections or been glassed in a Glasgow bar fight.....

There's a certain member on here who hates his Audi...mind you it's not a S4..
