Question Changes by year for 440i Gran Coupe

Is there a comprehensive list anywhere of all the changes by year?
I have a 435i GC w/thp now and like it so much I plan to upgrade in the next year or so to the 440i so I can have the best version of the car.

Are there any real changes from 2017 to 2021, improvements, tech upgrades.
Any reason to stay away from a certain year due to mechanical or software changes?
Any year that stands out as better for some reason?

I plan on doing minor perfornance upgrades, mild tune and possibly exhaust to get it closer to M340i performance in case that makes a difference. This car will be a keeper (6-10 years)

In case anyone is thinking it, I don't want an M340i and I definitely don't want a new bugs bunny faced 4 series.

If not M340 your leaving horses on the table. Lots of them. Big horses.

As long as you stick to the LCI you are good.
3/2019 introduced the "black line" rear lights but this is more or less it. Only in Europe they changed the exhaust which prevents the performance exhaust to be installed after 2018.

B58 engine was introduced for MY2017, LCI since MY2018. The leather cover on the gear lever disappeared since MY2019, black kidney grilles standard since MY2020 with darkened taillight

Ooh, I do like this dark taillights. Didn't they darken headlights too? What year were headlights changed? When were iconic (hex halo) headlights added?

Did they ever upgrade idrive further, past the LCI upgrade?
Wasn't there an interior ambiance lighting upgrade? Maybe that was part of the LCI.
Did they ever add comfort access to rear doors? It's a little annoying having to touch front door to unlock back door.

I knew someone wouldn't be able to help bringing up the m340i. From what I have read, the 440i is underrated from the factory and people are bumping the power to m340i levels with stage 1 tuning.

If horsepower was everything, I'd just drive the M4. I love the Gran Coupe for the 4 doors, hatchback and aesthetics. 3 series styling is not my cup of tea.

Just FYI, on LCI you cant code euro anti dazzle headlights on the LEDs, so 2017 with NBT evo and B58 is the way to go imho.

From my personal search it appears that after MY18 its hard to find one with M sport brakes (and the additional radiator that comes with). I believe it was removed as an ala carte option and only available with THP, at least this is the case for 2020.

This is good to know. Wonder how they disabled coding for this. I'll read up on this.

Not a big thing to retrofit the radiator. Just did it

I believe it was a hardware change, they deleted the anti dazzle motors from the LCI usdm headlights.

So to get anti dazzle on Icon headlights with the hex halo and black interior instead of chrome, I'd have to get euro headlights?

I don't think so, MY2017 has iDrive 5, after that it's iDrive 6, iDrive 7 only available to G20 and after. Before LCI no ambient lighting on the center console, after LCI there is, but only two colors, orange and white. Correct me if I'm wrong.

With the ambient light frame, the ash tray light disapeard. An additional USB port was mounted in the cover.

Never rear door comfort access.

Thanks, good info. Can't believe the back doors don't have comfort access. That's right there with no front overhead view. Do the 3 or 5 series have rear comfort access. I'm curious if this is a GC quirk or normal for the 4 doors.

Go ahead and configure a new 4GC on the BMW homepage. You will find the explanation that the comfort access only opens the front doors and the boot.

The usb port is in my 2017 pre-LCI 440i. So I think it was a year change not a LCI change.

Red face

You are right. It has to do with the wireless charging, but it was around the same time

The G30 5 series have rear door comfort access, the F3x can be retrofit with aftermarket comfort access rear door handles

I wonder if F36 can be retrofitted with rear comfort access too then.
