Kerbed wheel - DIY repair update
After 2 years and 3 months ownership I have kerbed a wheel in a car park.
A few years back I saved a post from Teaston who used various grades of wet and dry, and then a spray lacquer to seal the wheel, and did a good job of his own wheel. I bought the stuff for my old 3 series but ended up having the wheel replaced under warranty so still have the stuff. Will give it a go and post the results here.

I feel your pain, after doing similar a couple of months ago. Still undecided what to do as the other wheels are mint. Don't want to do a full DC refurb as they're never the same afterward.
I remember Teaston's thread, he got a good result. Be interested to see how you get on... |

I've been researching this recently as I've kerbed new wheels *arrgghhh*, haven't got around to doing it yet, but doesn't seem too taxing, just need to be patient.

Indeed, I stopped some white worm around the centre cap from developing in a similar manner.
In that case the sooner you bite the bullet, the less work to do and far less obvious afterward. |

I've refurbed a couple of my wheels in a similar way and they have been fine.
Just done a front 442M which I have as winters can't see the join so to speak unless you get really close to inspect and look into the 'diamond cut' lines. |

I did the corrosion under the lacquer around the centre hub of one of my 442Ms, using the same technique with fairly good results.

Today I followed the instructions above and had a go at doing a repair of my kerbed wheel. Had to take quite a bit off the edge as it was quite deep. It's not 100% but I am happy with the results.
In a couple ad days time I will polish up the lacquer with 3000 grit emery and Scratch X (as I don't have Maguires Ultimate compound) Last edited by sensible; 09-26-2021 at 08:59 AM.. |

That looks really good! If you wanted to fill that gap, in my reading, this was recommended:
