How far away can you guys unlock your car from?
Random question. But my car doesn't want to lock or unlock unless I'm within like 10 feet. My batteries in my car and remote are new. So that's unlikely the issue. If your guys' unlocks from the same distance then I know it's just BMW engineering at its finest.

If you hold the remote against the underside of your chin it will extend the range. Your body acts as an antenna.

Interesting. I wonder why yours goes further. Maybe not a whole lot of Wi-Fi around you interfering it, or something.?

Similar long ranges here. I accidentally unlocked my car from my second floor office while the car was in the lot across the street. Line-of-sight distance was probably at least 100ft...maybe more, and through a sealed window.

It's a function of the power output of the transmitter in the fob rather than the battery, unless the battery is losing it's charge. You just need a battery powerful enough to allow the transmitter to energize to it's max capacity.
I've noticed I can unlock my car at ranges well beyond any other car I've owned. As far as I know there is nothing special about the FOB and I'm running on whatever batter was in it when I bought the car CPO. I can get at least 100ft, maybe farther as-is.

That technically depends on what you want to use to unlock the car. Using the fob, it is at least 100 feet outside. If using the bmw app then that would be a much longer distance.

key fobs can suffer from "harmonic interference". They are weak transmitters and even thought they dont share the same radio band as say a wifi router it may still interfere with it. Any strong RF source nearby can overload the receiver in the vehicle as well.
https://whatis.techtarget.com/definition/harmonic Find yourself a big parking lot away from anything you think my be putting out a signal or blocking it and test your range there. interference is a pita to track down and without special equipmnt it can be very frustrating as it could be coming from anywhere... https://www.caranddriver.com/news/a2...-interference/ Last edited by steveindabmer; 09-24-2021 at 10:51 AM.. |
