You can't guarantee your own politician shares your views. It is just as likely as not, that they're from a party you didn't vote for as well.

The official parliament petition process was set up to allow people to express their opinions, and if it showed enough people agree with you, then you are entitled to a response, and if a high enough amount agree, it has to be debated in the commons.

Lobbying your MP is a very hit and miss way of trying to be heard at all.

The petitions process is a good way for the public to be heard by politicians.

What exactly don't you like about it?

Just placed my vote in it. As it says, we might not get another vote, so I'm letting the government know how I feel about it.

I could have phoned Toby Perkins MP, but I suspect he doesn't give a fuck what I think. The government doesn't much either, but at least this way I've told them.

Did you get an email link yet to validate? Still waiting for mine.
I think that the volume of people attempting to sign the petition is causing problems

My local Labour MP is on the same wavelength so I'm not bashing her ear. She's a staunch remainer, as I am, and we live in a constituency which voted to remain by a substantial majority (70%). I'd imagine it would be even higher now

I have however bashed her ear about the appalling job Labour are doing in opposition under Corbyn, and she agrees - not in writing though, more's the pity

Because there are way too many that I get asked to sign - half of them on stupid subjects that I dont give a toss about. Like everything, its a good idea that is spoiled by how some individuals implement it...

On the Brexit one, I dont think the government need telling that about half the public dont want to leave, and the other half do. That's part of the problem.....

Now when it has been signed by 24m people - and can be validated as unique individuals who have a right to vote and are only counted once - then it will be useful....

Until then I will look forward to the chaos that ensues next Saturday. Coming up your way for the weekend just in case the world ends...

It's a fair point. I think it's well known there are millions of people who voted to remain and of course many will still be of the same view. And when things go viral....

Give this a try, if nothing more than to annoy him that he should reply to all constituents that email in.

That is truly hysterical. I'm reminded of what we went through here during the 2016 presidential election. So here are some reminders.

Damn, I have a really bad week at work on 1st April with visitors from parent company, I was hoping a no deal brexit would keep them out....

(and yes, that is one of the questions I have been asked - will there be long queues at security on 1st as a result of Brexit, these people clearly dont do queues.... as though that is the biggest issue!)

And it takes about 4 or 5 attempts unless you're lucky the email takes a while to come through as well, it'll be 2 million tomorrow and will probably hit 17.5 million on the 30th....

No. I did it once.

In one post you've rendered the entire petition pointless. Good work.

What is going on right now - the EU discussng what they're going to do - is exactly why the U.K, or any single country, will always be at a disadvantage negotiating a political issue with the EU. This is that the EUs differing views are being shared behind closed doors - the public cannot hear the discussion and draw their own views, the media cannot critique and pitch one member against another causing division.

Then one person speaks on their behalf and it looks like they're all united.

Indeed but it's more like a cabinet meeting than a parliamentary session so not really the same, well actually it's a summit meeting of the countries leaders which are never broadcast live.

The European parliament is not held behind closed doors.

Which is exactly why we should have stayed. Makes us stronger.

Would rather have that strength when negotiating a trade deal with China and the US than Liam Fox. He can use his experience with Lichtenstein to make sure we get a good one.
