I took over the lease on my 2014 335i 3 months, or 6,000 miles ago...now at 28,000 miles on the odometer. The previous owner commented about keeping a quart on hand for periodic top off.
Today, for the THIRD time, the car gave me a low oil warning. Let me do the very simple math for you: that's one quart every 2,000 miles. This CANNOT be normal. That being said, it otherwise drives well, and I do not drive it overly aggressive. Thoughts? I think this warrants a dealer checkup.

I'm consuming zero oil. My oil change intervals are every 5,000 to 7,500 miles. The odometer reading right now is at 45,600 miles for my 2014 335i. Oil used is Mobil 1 0w-40. Slightly thicker than a 5w-30. |

My X6 50i drank oil, 1 qt every 1500 miles. My last vehicle X1 35i had the N55 and never ran low, oil changes every 7-8K miles. I'm only around 2800 miles on this N55 so the jury is still out.
If your car is using oil and is still under warranty you should be able to go to your service advisor and get a qt from them. Keep doing that because that will help them note/track oil usage and if it is due to a problem they should then test to see why it's being used more than "normal"

Now that I've left the engine break in period behind (4,100 miles, approximately), it seems to be stable at close to not oil consumption. Thanks folks...

Thanks for giving us an update. People will often say that oil burning in these cars is normal, but I don't buy it.. Anything over 1 quart over 10,000 miles would seem excessive in my book regardless of driving style.

MY N55 used 1L of oil in first 11,000km. From 11,000 -20,000KM I have barely used any oil at all. Still showing about 3/4 full. Definetly less oil use then the N54 in my BMW135.
