Are people in the F-series community blowing out spark yet? I thought we barely scratched the 600 club.

Why would you wait until you're blowing out spark to upgrade to a better ignition?

Nothing against having better.
But my own personal opinion is if I am going to replace a highly engineered product developed specifically for my car which can last probably 100k miles, it will need to be a damn good reason, like too much boost and blowing out spark.

I dont think we have the OEM coil reliability issues that plagued the N54 crowd. So for them, just replacing a coil to a more reliable one would still be a plus, let alone the performance gains, and the prolific big singles now in the scene.

I just hit 80k on my car on original coils, and just judging purely from my car and what I see on the forums, it doesnt seem like the coils for F series N55's have reliability issue (among many other improvements in reliability vs N54 lol)

Im sure as bigger turbos start getting more popular with the Fseries crowd, the demand will come as people start getting misfires. But Im still here in the sandbox playing with my factory snail.
Just my 2cents.

would there be a significant advantage to run a custom tune over OTS for a 335i with stantard bolt ons??
Can't speak exactly for MHD, but one of the benefits of Custom vs OTS is that OTS is has a bit more of a safety cushion. Take note that OTS maps are typically built in one area of the world, but are then padded a bit to compensate for envioronments that run different ambient temps, altitude, fuel quality, etc.

Custom tunes will be a bit more catered to your environment in mods.

Will it make much of a different for your every-day tuner.... probably not. But if you are chasing top performance, every little bit helps.

Custom tuning isn't just about power. At least from me its not. Custom tuning covers everything that the OTS maps does, plus the stuff the OTS map doesn't. Things like personalized throttle mapping, personalized boost curves and driving feel to name a few. There are people out there who track the cars. So they may want something catered more to their driving style for the track.

But yes, along with that, Most custom tunes will perform better from a raw power standpoint. But that just the nature of things as stated OTS mapping needs to leave a buffer of error for everything since it will be being used on many vehicles from different places, different climates, different elevations, and etc.

Fact is as good as an OTS can be, once you reach the point in your build where you want the absolute most out of your car. custom tuning is the only way to.

Is Pureboost actually a part of MHD, or separate company?
Just curious, do you only do custom tuning for E-series? No F-series tunes? Why? Is the N55 in E & F series cars that different to tune?
Cheers.
Pureboost is a separate company that have their roots in aftermarket DMEs. We started to work together on F series back in April 17. The n55 has had several revisions, from the 2010 PWG to the 2017 EWG in the M2 there were significant changes.

But, prior to doing your custom tune. I'd need you you to help out with testing a couple of the OTS maps for MHD. Then we can move forward with your custom tune. Testing the OTS maps is a pre-req right now during the close beta period to help out.

Let me know.
Sent you a PM.

So for 640i with 320HP, the gains of stage 1 are pretty minimal?

And yes, no DME unlock needed.
Well, with respect to above quoted post from MHD and seeing that no other threads are made by them for other platforms while having them listed..

Take with a grain of salt the stated numbers for PWG cars, they are not final. The output of the maps will be the same though for the 300 and 320 hp PWG cars. You may also consider stage 2 map.

Testing status

We have received for the closed beta way more inquiries than expected (300+). We are processing them as fast as we can (during our holidays) so we can start OTS maps testing as planned early January.

The full OBD (no DME unlock needed) method has been working flawlessly on the two dozens cars so far that received the initial MHD install flash, be it for a custom map or the stage 0 map (OEM calibration) while waiting for the OTS maps.

How hard/long will it take to go back and forth between tunes. Say if I have a 93 oct tune and want to also have an E40 tune for fun on the weekend. What is that process? or is it better to get a 93 oct tune then just use JB4 to run my E40?

if it is like any other obd2 flash, just plug, flash, 5 mins, and go.

i probably wouldnt run jb4 over a tune...
