Well F......I'm done

Well it happened again. Seems to be about every 18 months; 4th time since I bought my 2014 BMW 335 new.

Driving down the freeway and boom...low engine power. Get off, pull into a parking lot and popped the hood. Yep. Charge pipe blew.....again.

I really should have upgraded after it happened the first time but I figured it's under warranty and I'm sure it won't happen again. Fortunately I have 54 days left on my extended warranty. Unfortunately I was supposed to ship the car from Hawaii to the Mainland for my PCS this week. There goes my holiday weekend.

Is it too much to hope that the engine sucked up plastic and is so damaged they total the car?

Pro tip 1: Get an aftermarket charge pipe.
Pro tip 2: Skip BMW. Buy a Lexus.

i dont think it would have ate plastic, the forces would have blown the plastic bits outward.

Metal charge pipe is better and half the cost of the oem plastic charge pipe.

There have been reports that BMW modified the original chargepipe. The new plastic pipe available at dealers is supposed to be reinforced in certain spots. I have not confirmed this or looked to see if part number have changed.

The issue isn't that the chargepipe is plastic. Other models use a plastic chargepipe without a high failure rate. The F-series N55 CP is a weak design because the shape has a 90 degree bend. It always breaks at the bend or at the end near the bend.

No one makes a better aftermarket chargepipe than Evolution Racewerks.

You'd think you would learn after the first time....

There's a couple thing that tend to snap or explode on the car that have upgraded parts.

Upgrading the pipe shouldn't void warranty.. it'll just be money out of your pocket then the free one

This is another cautionary tale. Replacing OEM N55 charge pipe is the cheapest insurance one can buy.

Two votes for ER product.

I brought my dealer an aftermarket chargepipe to replace the stock one and they had no issues doing it

My problem is I live in Hawaii (at least for another 28 days). Shipping jumps the cost up significantly. It's also hard to find an indy shop here that will do the work for a reasonable price.

I'm getting an estimate from one shop now. Although I'll probably just end up taking it to the dealer to get it replaced, ship the car to Arizona, and find someone there to do some work including the CP.

Happened to me 4 weeks ago after running BM3 Stage 1 for 6 months. Gave me a reason to install all my parts(FBO) for stage 2.

I'd get an S4 or T6 if I didn't want to mod. Just because of instant power/supercharger.
