F31 330d no power... Turbo issue ?
Hi all,
Taking the car out this morning, it started up as normal and pulls off as normal, but as soon as I was off the drive and looking to pull away out of the estate I noticed a lack of power. Anything over 1.8-2k revs when you'd usually feel the shove, just not much at all. Winding the window down I can't hear the usual turbo noises either. I dont however have any engine management lights etc coming up on the dash, and nothing flagging up in iDrive. Reading other posts regarding similar issues people have mentioned perished vacuum hoses, air mass meters or epdw valves ? Causing similar issues without anything being flagged as a fault. I have limited mechanical knowledge tbh so at abit of a loss of how to diagnose what it may be. Any advice on things I can look at to attempt to diagnose the issue ? The car is a 2014 F31 330d M-Sport sitting at 89,000miles now |

Just because the EML isn't lit, doesn't mean a fault isn't logged. Cars usually wait for a few errors before telling the driver to not try and scare them!
If the car isn't boosting and revving above a certain rpm, the car is likely in limp mode. I would read for error codes in the first instance. It will save a lot of time in the long run! I doubt the turbo itself is at fault, they tend to let you know they're on the way out by whining. |

Hi thanks for your reply, the car revs freely just doesnt seem to boost at all.
I'll look to download ISTA-D and read the codes. Also taken a video of the actuator, as below. Does this seem to be operating normally ? https://www.amazon.co.uk/clouddrive/...qcK6J8yI89PSFl |

Having driven the car for the last 50k + miles I can honestly say I've never really noticed a regen to be honest, my daily commute is 55miles ish 50 of which is on fairly open/quiet motorway so plently of time for the regen to take place without disruption.
The power loss I'm experiencing definately feels like no boost, I once had a VW caddy 2.0 diesel N/A. It feels slightly more spritely than that, terrible. Booked into BMW on Wednesday this coming week, I questioned myself when taking out the extended warranty. It may just be about to pay out, we shall see. Will report back! Update: Dropped the car at BMW first thing this morning, having heard nothing all day I called on my way home from work to enquire if it was worth my time heading down to the dealership to pick it up.
Glad I called ahead rather than sitting in traffic as they asked if they can keep it for another day, as havent been able to diagnoise what is causing the issue yet |
