F31 Wheel / Tire Fitment Question

I am looking at replacing my wheels with these in the Anthracite finish:

https://www.apexraceparts.com/wheels...l-5-wheel.html

From an email I sent this is their recommendation:

Front & Rear: 18x8.5” ET35 with 235/40-18 tires

Popular fitment.
OEM 225/45-18 tires may be used.
245/40-18 tires can also be used.

I am going to go with the 245/40-18 tire with this setup, unless 18x9 wheels would fit in which case I would go with something even wider. I would prefer a little wider wheel/tire combination than 18.5.

Has anyone run the 18x9 square setup and not had fitment issues?

Thanks

you ought to run a square set of 18x9.5 ET35 with 255/40/18 size tires.

The FL-5 wheel in 18x9 only comes with a ET30 offset. I believe I'll just go with their recommendation so I don't have any fitment issues. Thanks

Oem tire diameter is 26". With 18x8.5 ET35, the tire size I'd use if you're x-drive and not lowered is 235/45/18(26.3"). I'd also do 255/40/18(26") albeit with a slight bulge not worth mentioning. 245/40/18 fits best on 8.5" but your gap will increase 0.15" from OEM gap and will look better if you're lowered, especially on x-drives. I dont agree the 235/40/18(25.4") recommendation from Apex since that increases gap 0.3" from OEM and increases speedo and odometer error as well. Be sure to post pics after its installed.

EDIT...thatBimmerBloke F32 x-drive stock height on Apex Arc-8, 18x8.5 ET38, 255/40/18 square. the FL-5 at ET35 would be 3mm further out.

I think I saw your post on reddit asking about this but I'll second that I don't agree with Apex's recs on there. 245/40 or 255/40 is a better choice for xdrive cars.

245x40 is my plan. I've looked at a lot of threads, and I feel this will give me the best option. I do plan to lower the car in the future, and this should still allow ample room. Thanks everyone.

I run 255/40 on 18x8.5 on my F31 and am happy with it.

I have a F series x drive coupe with stock square 18x8 wheels. I do not plan on lowering it. I have ordered 235/45-18 Performance All season tires all around. I also change to winter tires during the snow season. I will mount them and report back how they compare to the 225/45-18 Run-Flats I currently have. I went for the 235/45-18 width to fill the gap in the x drive a bit, get added comfort and protection from potholes and rough roads. I am not a fan of low height sidewall tires (35,40) as I have cracked BMW wheels and blown out tires and been left stranded in the past. I tend to drive in Northern NH, VT and ME roads and extreme weather and gnarly roads are common. Basically everyone's car use and preferences are part of the decision making process on the best choice of tire size. There is no one size is best in all instances.
