Talking Dyno Tune Results

The amount of torque these cars can make is insane!

I still have to pickup the car, so I don't know how it drives yet, but I am sure I will be happy.

Was it a mustang dyno? Seems awfully low.

Yes, it is steady state tuning. How high the numbers is less important than before and after. It is roughly 435 hp / 570 tq at the crank.

Another tractor... Excellent for burnouts though BM3, MHD, something entirely else? Looks like a stock turbo PWG? You dont get anywhere near 435 crank on that.

(sorry, hope some friend teasing is ok)

where did you get 435 hp at the crank? your dyno reads 303 hp? im FBO running bm3 e30 tune and dont have 435 hp...

just so you know and your not getting the wrong info. that graph looks like a stock 335i.

No. I already had the intake, ic, and pipes installed when it hit the dyno for the first time. Before and after is just a tune.

all I would take away from this is what you were able to gain from the tune, 60hp and I forget what tq, but don't take the actual number at face value, definitley seems off (low) maybe a calibration thing? also curious how you got 435hp/570tq off those numbers.. regardless of the reading, the actual gain looks pretty good.. not 435/570 good, but good none the less

+1
243/0.8 = 300 (stock power)
304/0.8 = 380 (which is bang on for a good stock turbo tune without fancy fuels)

Who did the tuning?

just seems odd to only have 300whp with FBO and a tune...ideally 350whp would of been my guess

But good job getting a before and after dyno!

I am FBO with bunch of other things (that probably don't make much difference) and I was only able to pull 338whp and 403wtq with 91 octane on a custom tune.

So if that's stage 2 and dyno tuned, that is definitely wayyy low, heck, even I expected my numbers to be around 360whp at the least since so many other members push 380whp when they're FBO and stage 2. I am guessing we both went to a dyno where the calibration wasn't done or correctly done?

Or maybe we are PWG and that's the cause.

High? Low? Makes no difference really, the important thing is the before and after and gaining 60bhp...

Every dyno reads different and its the delta that is important.

Oh ok, thank you for sharing the results. 60 HP difference is low for a dyno tune. You can get this much or even more from an off the shelf tune.

That being said as long as you are happy with it, thats all that matters

It's about what I expected on a Mustang-type dyno and a PWG AWD 335i with FBO. The powerband matches well to what you'd expect for the PWG N55 where power peaks at 5300rpms. The EWG cars tend to peak at 6000-6200rpms and have a broader and wider powerband.

This car is not making 435 hp/570 tq at the crank though. More like 360-370hp/400-420tq. It's certainly much quicker and faster though. It's shed 0.4-0.5 seconds and added 4-5mph in the 1/4 mile given all the power added across the powerband.

I'd disagree with that. The PWG N55 gained 60whp and 100wtq with a flash tune and DP. That's around 75hp and 120tq at the flywheel over stock and what you'd expect, especially for a PWG N55. The advantage to flash tunes over piggybacks really isn't all out power, but rather more consistent, smoother, linear, and broader power.

People should stop speculating absolute numbers and just compare the delta, thats what dynos are for

I agree, but perhaps you should adhere to your recommendation as well then?

Dynos are tools and they measure and calculate power differently depending on make. So when you say "60 HP difference is low for a dyno tune", you need to consider the dyno. Mustang dynos, which are the best tuning-type dyno, can vary load. As a result, they generate lower numbers than a something like a Dynojet. So 60whp gained on a Mustang will certainly be a lower number than the delta range of a Dynojet or any other non-varying load type dyno.

By saying something like his numbers are low with no other backing info, you plant a seed of worry. The depicted power curves aren't showing anything troublesome occurring. The power delivery and shape of the powerbands are what we've seen time and time again with PWG N55s. If anything, I'd say the tune is spot on.

the 60, is a delta which is what dyno numbers are for. I am adhering to my recommendation as my recommendation was not to try and figure out the absolute numbers.

And yes tune is spot on for an off the shelf map which is what i said in my reply. For a dyno tune, they are low as dyno tunes tend to be more aggressive than off the shelf maps.

Still need to get it back, but I am sure I will be happy. 😁

My a/f was very lean before and boost was inconsistent using the JB4. Now a/f is 12.0 and 17 psi.

Low numbers on the dyno mean nothing to me. When I had just an intake and JB+ turned up all the way, I raced my brother in 3rd gear. He has a Q50 Red Sport 400 which are known to be underrated. While his car was faster, it wasn't a whole lot. Now with a downpipe and 17psi, it would be hard to imagine the car doesn't exceed 400 hp.

I plan on taking it to the track at some point and will see how I run. If I am right, I would expect low 12's.
