I'm please to report another successful ID5/ID6_lite retrofit in my 2016 F80 M3 which originally game with NBT EVO ID4. I think I'm the 3rd person running this retrofit from them now.

Awesome that all my features still work just like what Steve (at Bimmercoders) told me and the only hiccup I had initially was an error in pairing with my iPhone for CarPlay. It turned out to be a defective phone but Steve provided tons of tips to get it working and was emailing me back when I was blasting out emails at 3AM. Now that's customer service!

Anyway, after getting a new phone from Apple, my iDrive and CarPlay works fine. One thing I noticed with ID5 was that I can access the Spotify app via BT instead of having to plug it in. I'm not sure if that is an ID5 feature or an enhanced bluetooth feature (stock didn't have it), but it is awesome! Another thing I noticed is that ID6_lite doesn't display all six tiles at once compared to the new G30s and even ID5, but I'm guessing they are running on full ID6.

Thanks again for loading up the latest firmware, I'll probably hit you (Steve) up in the future to figure out how to get full ID6 running when the 2018s are out.

Also throwing this out there before I ask Steve, does anyone know for the pictures of the vehicles on iDrive, do they have a specific picture for the F80 or is just a generic F30 picture?

ID6 Lite actually only shows 3 tiles even on the new 2018 models. If you press the menu button to re-arrange the layout, that's when you will see all 6 tiles but that's for your to switch them around.

As for the iDrive vehicle picture on the home screen, it will always show an F30 as that's how it was designed from factory.

We don't reflash your headunit as that will cause service and warranty implications.

Right now, we will let everyone know via this thread and our website once more become but we are all sold out at the moment.

Oh okay, well then I'll probably contact you again when touch screens come out for the f30 and see if we can get that retrofitted easily.

So basically we are installing a new head unit and it's no longer coding as previously stated? I have a 2016 F30 with NBT EVO and was under the impression you guys were working on a way to recode our head units to have ID 5 since we have the hardware.

We never stated that this would be delivered via a software flash on your existing hardware. The hardware between an ID4 NBT EVO and ID5 NBT EVO are different and it is not possible to have everything working to this extent without a replacement head unit.

If you try flashing your ID4 head unit to ID5, the On Board Navigation will no longer work and you will lose ConnectedDrive. It's also not possible to revert back to ID4 once your head unit has attempted an ID5 flash so this will also cause warranty issues.

bimmercoders I'm looking into pulling ahead on a 2017 320i with almost everything I want (Premium, Driver Assistance, and Lighting Packages), however it doesn't have Navigation.

How hard would it be to retrofit navigation? Would I be able to buy an NBT EVO head unit, screen, and controller and simply swap them out and do some coding? Or is that too easy?

Unfortunately, our retrofit will not work on your vehicle as you will need some different telematic hardware that can only be found on the model equipped with Navigation.

If your vehicle meets the minimum requirements then yes.

1) 2016 model equipped with pre-existing navigation system
2) US or Canadian Vehicle
3) Harman Kardon sound system

If it's a 2015 M235i convertible then it will work with our retrofit regardless of the production month. If it's a 2015 M235i coupe, you will need to check the manufacture month as only the ones produced from March 2015 can use this retrofit.

F30, F31, F32, F33,F34, F36, F80, F82 and F83 would be preferred and your vehicle must be a US or Canadian 2016 model with pre-existing navigation and Harmon Kardon sound system.

F48 uses HU_ENTRYNAV so unfortunately it is lacking prerequisite hardware.

The image is from the IBAD files in the unit.

I've retrofitted a NBT EVO into my E93. When I flash the unit, I use a FA I generated with series, timecriteria, and typekey, from a 2016 F33, so that when I flash the unit, F33 IBA files are loaded. All the owners manual images and data are for a F33, and the image on the home screen is a F33 with the top down.

I have read this thread (and others) and am still confused. With a 2016 F30, build date 2016-02-12, that has Navigation Professional from the factory, ConnectedDrive, and NBT EVO...

Is it a head unit swap or a remote flash/software upgrade to get ID5/CarPlay?

What kind of costs (ballpark) are we talking about?

It's a hardware swap. You should be able to use your current screen as it should be apix2. I'll let bimmercoders comment on the price
