2013 328i - Luxury Issues ALL at Once
Well after a few years of telling everyone I meet how great and low maintenance my car has been i finally see what all the complaints are about. I brought my car in for 110,000 mile service (thought oil and spark plugs) turned in to worn wastegate/turbo, front brakes, leaking thrust bushings, new batttery, and exhaust actuator. a $480 service came back as an 8900 estimate for service.
I did the oil and sparkplugs and left everything else to chance. Just paid off this past Fall, and had been thinking about trading in for another cpo. This will be the last bmw I own. It was problem free for 4.5 years (for me) but it doesn't say much if it just lumps in all of the problems at once. /rant |

Do you have an N26 by chance?
Turbo is covered under SULEV extended warranty for us. |

I agree, get a second opinion. Maybe you don'r really need all that. Btw all except turbo is normal maintenance stuff.
Any error codes for turbo/wastegate issue? |

Getting hosed by the dealer had me looking up indie shops around me and found one 2 miles from my house so i'm taking it there tomorrow. Wish I had looked for one sooner. I had one in MA in Braintree that I took my car to for service, that was fantastic to deal with. I recently moved to Florida and just took it to the dealer. Mistake on my part. |

Ah. I would definitely double check as the N26 has a lot of items covered to 150k miles (like the turbo).

Definitely worth checking in to. Though please correct me if I'm wrong, in order to have SULEV warranty honored you must live in a state that requires SULEV emissions standards. For example, I have an N26, but live in Michigan where SULEV is not required. In my limited research, I dont believe any SULEV claims for me would be honored. Looks like OP is in FL, not sure of their standards off hand

If you bring you car to a repair facility I am sure even a brand new car they will find work to do so they can pay their bills. Do like you did and drive it! I do all my own work so I never bring my car to a place. As for everything they found they probably never even looked at the car and just said it needed all that, which in a perfect world it probably does but drive and enjoy and don't sweat having a "perfect" car!!

Problem free for 4.5 years and now you have to do maintenance at 110k miles and this is your last BMW? I think you're missing the point here my friend. 4.5 years of no maintenance is unheard of, even in the most reliable of cars. It's paid off and at 110k miles, stuff needs to be done, that comes with owning a car. Just use all that maintenance money you've saved and budgeted for over 4.5 years.

My beef is that at 110k I shouldn't need a new turbo and the suspension shouldn't be falling apart. I've replaced the struts and control arms under an insurance claim 6 months ago and now the thrust arm bushings are leaking. And my wife had a new engine put in her Camry for 3,800 at a dealer. I know it's a BMW but 5k for just the turbo is ridiculous. I see people complain about engine gaskets, timing chains, and coil packs. I haven't had any of that come in to play yet. So am I dropping 6k, if work done at an indie shop, and then right around the corner from any of those issues? I'd say it's a good chance. |

All of those problems can be expected by 100k miles, from any car. I bet some of them have been there a while, you just weren't aware of them. As for going to a dealership for service, never use them for anything other than what's covered under warranty. Find an indy with a good reputation.

Im going to echo what some of the others have said " Your car needs some maintenance at 110k miles and this is your last BMW? "
I am not sure your level of handyness but alot of the things you need done are extremely easy DIY's with basic tools. BMW Quoted you $8900, Let me break it down maybe it will help ( ALL OEM QUALITY PARTS ) : Quote:
it could be done in a driveway with hand tools it would cost you the following : Quote:

Id say even an INDY would do it for half of BMW if you werent confident with the repairs yourself.. At the end of the day this is basic maintence outside of the turbo if its really blown which I highly doubt, They are prob just saying that due to the ever so common rattle. Also if you already replaced control arm / thrust arms ( 4 arms in total ) 6 months ago thats not normal for them to be blown again that sounds like someone didnt torque them at ride height like your suppose to. Im at 105k on original arms but they are due when I replace my struts. Hope this helps and reassures you a little none of this is major or a big deal . ** if turbo is actually blown that shouldnt happen at 110k miles I agree.
