Please help: F36 standard or M sport suspension EU model
Just ordered 420d Gran Coupe M sport (18 inch rims) and have several days to decide between 225 standard or 704 M suspension. Have anybody tried both? Is M suspension too stiff on highway drive and is it ok for longer trips (500-700km)?
Is there any difference in drive comfort between F30 and F36? Thanks in advance ) |

My wife has 435 xd with M sport suspension and 18" rims - and in the "comfort" setting it is quite pleasant to ride on, also on longer (800 km) cross Europe trips. The car has very good roadholding and I keep borrowing it from her on any excuse.
The biggest positive surprise is fuel economy, a full tank seems to last forever. |

Not sure my model is comparable but I have a 340 with the variable suspension and when it's in the soft setting (comfort) my wife always asks? Do you have it in sport mode?

My GC has the 704..I don't find it to stiff at all in comfort mode. The only thing that I dislike are the runflats.......

Great tell me how car rides on highway when speeding 150-190kmh? How it feels on bumpy roads? I'm asking this because there is no test wehicle avaible right now and I only have 15 days left to lock options list

I have 704 on my 420d GC, and I don't think it is too stiff on highway. I have only tested 225 in combination with xDrive, and very much prefer my car with 704.

Can you explain me the difference? I mostly drive on highway 150-200kmh. I heard that 704 M suspension is too rude and bumpy on highway. But that are rumors. I have no chance to drive and test by mayself...

Bumpy roads are fine. The suspension soaks up those fine. As mentioned, the drawback(s) are the Pirelli RunFlats which can be noisy on grooved roads. I've had it to triple digits in open road areas and I found the 704 suspension just fine YMMV.

I cannot help you here, because I have no easy access to the exact description of option 704.
Looking at my wife car's invoice, I see options "2VF Adaptive running gear" and "337 M Sport package". I cannot decode what do they mean exactly, but by driving it I can tell that the car has an adaptive suspension with three stiffness levels, Comfort, Sport and Sport +. Comfort is just that, very comfortable for long trips. |

Highway no problem, they are usually quite flat and no holes. My main problems is in cities with stone paved streets, then the suspension might be a bit uncomfortable.

I have had no problems in my first 2,500 miles in my GC with M suspension... smooth, except in Sport mode, when you feel more of the road, but I love it, less roll and sway. 18'' wheels though? You might come to regret that, unless you're planning for an aftermarket upgrade. I also don't mind my runflats.

I choose 18 inch wheels because we drive a littel bit faster in Europe than US. if The suspension and tires are too stiff the car bounce too much. In my opinion, softer suspension more agile drive. The look is way better with bigger wheels... |

I've driven the following:
F30 with regular suspension with 17 inch runflats F30 facelift with M sport suspension on 18 inch runflats F36 with M sport adaptive suspension on 19 inch runflats My current F36 is the most comfortable of them all with that suspension combo if you put the suspension in comfort mode that is. If you put it in sport, it's the most hard ride of them all but I guess the 19 inch wheels help accomplish that but for me, that's fine, I actually like the stiffness of the suspension and the feeling that the car really sticks to the road. I drive in sport mode most of the time even. The comfort mode goes on when my wife is in the car haha because she complains otherwise, I usually use my car for driving to work so most of the times it's just me in the car really. No complaints from my kids either by the way, they find it comfortable in the back and they like the car. It felt like my second BMW F30 facelift with M sport suspension was more comfortable than the first F30 ~ I don't know why in all honesty, does it have to do with different runflats or whatever, I'm not sure but that was my feeling driving it. So if I would have to choose, I would go, again, for the Adaptive M Sport suspension |

The ride is firm but not jarring. At speed, the car is smooth and quiet.
