Insurance: 2018 320iX > 2018 X5 in NYC?
We live in NYC, and currently have a 2018 320iX and X5 in our household. Both cars were new leases, completely accident free, and the Mrs. and I have terrific driving record.
That said, for the 2nd year in a row, I am observing that the $ to insure the X5 is "at least 5-6%" less than the 320i with the former being at least $15k more expensive. Is X5 just "cheaper" to insure...? Thought I'd ask here first before I pick up the phone with Travelers Insurance. |

Accident risk is considered when calculating insurance rates. In general X5 owners are older, more conservative drivers than 320 owners, with X5s being in far fewer accidents as a result.

Price is based purely on overall claims based on the model. My buddy had a Suzuki SX4 -- that bubble looking AWD hatchback (also claim free) and his rates were more than my 335 which was worth 3x as much, from the same insurance company.
I can insure a Ferrari for about the same or less money than my 340 purely based on the almost zero claim payout. |
