Hybrid bike recommendations
Looking to buy a cheapish hybrid bike to go out with my boy.
Max budget of £500. Any recommendations? Thanks in advance. |

I’ve just been through this and looked at sooooo many!
I had a slightly higher budget and it came down to the Cannondale Quick CX 3 and the Specialized Crosstrail Sport. I went with the former but there was next to feck all in it. Both come in versions around your budget. I primarily use on back roads and it’s great, also taken it off road over commons and down hills and behaved just as well as my trusty old Claud Butler Cape Wrath MTB. |

Do you have a cycle to work scheme at work. Try to leverage that, you could then get a near £1k bike for £500-£600 and spread over a years salary sacrifice too.
Plenty of room in the X3 no doubt for it too.

Then that gets 'us' a £1000 voucher. After this the Trek Madone 9.5 can follow with a 'top up'

Normally I'd say +1 but...
+ about £240 a month more than we wanted to spend seems about right. Still man maths can balance that off against advanced warnings of awesome torch deals. YingnYang :

I'm on my second Specialized Sirrus Elite. Do about 75 miles a week road / path / across a bit of golf course on my daily commute, and they've both been excellent. Only on second as eventually wore the first one out

I bought a Giant Escape hybrid around that price a few years back - was very happy with it especially once upgraded with narrower, harder compound tyres. Now have a road bike.
Scour the web for deals on last year's model. Most manufacturers will just have launched the equivalent of the MY19s, this means big discounts on 2018 bikes. Rather than looking for a particular brand, hunt down a big discount on something with a good component set. Getting a £800 2018 bike will be a big step up from a £500 2019 bike. ETA Slightly over budget (of course!) but something like this from £1239 to £585: https://m.bikester.co.uk/kona-esatto...ey-877710.html

Honestly, I have a hybrid and it's OK but I wish wish wish I'd just bought a cyclocross bike instead. Anything with front suspension below £600 is likely to be trash and you'll get mega fed up of flat bar bikes limited hand positions on anything longer than 10 miles. Go look at the Voodoo offerings in Halfords.
