Surface Pro anyone?

Daughters macbook has gone squiffy, looking at something different. Anyone used a surface pro 5 and any thoughts on it?

I’ve promised her a new MacBook Pro next summer when she buggers off to uni, so plan is to get her something to last until next summer which i’ll then adopt. Nothing against Apple, house is full of Apple stuff from iMacs to pads to tv we could do with a win10 machine for house automation stuff and photography.

I bought a surface pro 4 on prime day a few months back - really pleased with it. Didn't know they had moved on to the 5. Mine is a i5 128gb. EDIT - following post below I checked my amazon order and mine is a surface pro 5. It currently on offer at £890.99 on Amazon, but that's still £150 more than the prime day bargain.

I tend to use it more as a mini-laptop and have the keyboard permanently attached, but docking/undocking the keyboard is simple (magnetic).

It's brilliant on flights where a full laptop is too big and great for just a quick bit of work in Starbucks or whatever. Being a full win10 machine is very useful.

Startup is pretty instant, similar to iPad and the facial recognition works well.

Performance is excellent, much better than my work Lenovo laptop (also i5, about a year old).

The screen is also fantastic, again I much prefer working on the surface to my laptop which has a terrible screen (I would be delighted with a Mac though!).

I've got the surface pen and mouse too - both good.

Maybe I am confused about which gen I have as it was the current model in all the stores when I bought it around July time.

Totally agree with all of this.......I have the same model, think they actually dropped the “5” and officially it was just the Pro...........a bit like iPads 🤫

+1. Absolutely love mine. Perfect laptop replacement, excellent tablet and the pen performance has come on leaps and bounds.

I can almost guarantee you that the i5 surface pro will be £749 incl keyboard on black Friday at PC world which will probably be matched by other stores.

The core m would probably be £649/99

That sounds likely and matches the price that amazon sold the i5/8gb/128gb keyboard model for on prime day - it was sold out within hours.
