BMW engine air filter question

Hey, so I have a F32 435i xdrive and I was wondering if a K&N engine air filter would be better than an OEM engine air filter. I’ve read a lot of mixed reviews and from the reading I did on the E90 forum, it’s just 50/50. I personally am looking to increase the performance of the car so I don’t know which one would be better. Does anyone have any knowledge on this? Thanks in advance. (I’m most likely going to be getting a cold air intake, I would appreciate it a lot if you guys could recommend some good, reputable brands)

I just bought a K&N air filter and I'm putting it in my car tomorrow. I'll let you know what it's like!

Make sure you clean the MAF sensor regularly. The oils in these things are pretty bad.

In terms of performance gains you won't see any. Maybe some more intake noise...

I had it in my previous car because I found one cheaper than the OEM filter, but I went and replaced it soon. I feel better if I know there is no oil flying in my engine cramming my sensors

A cold air intake is more for sound then anything else. I went with the AFE Power Pro Dry S air filter which doesn't use any oil. Ive read that the oiled ones can sometimes cause issues.

Don't waste your money on a CAI. A quality drop in is going to give you the exact same benefits. That would be a louder air intake swoosh and maybe a couple ponies.

I personally run a KN filter with no issue. Just make sure to let it dry in the sun for a couple hours before re installing. If you think thats too much trouble, go with a dry type filter.

At the end of the day... an OEM paper filter isnt a bad idea either. Just depends if you want to keeo buying those or clean the aftermarket once a year. Comes down to preference mostly.

i'd recommend a dry filter over the oily k&n.
