Parts in the US for this are about $350 ish for OEM and ZF fluids.

So quick question, I got the offer from workshop for changing oil in transs, complete stripping transmission box and washing, new filters panel and other stuffs that go in,and bill is 700 Euro. I think that fair price for the job

Grammarking. Looking good! Crazy how much gunk is built up in the manifold. Before you decide to clear is there a check engine light that comes on? Also in this last service did you use any cleaners or was it straight water?

Update ATP 205 Leak Sealer has fixed BOTH differential leaks for now! Yay!

Car in for the EGR Cooler Recall. Since the damn thing leaked I am hoping that they replace the intake manifold as well as the EGR valve and EGR cooler. That's something like 2500 just for parts eh?

Thrust arm tension strut bushings and yeah those were factory. I wish I did that a LOT sooner. It's like night and day.

After I get a free replacement arm from FCP if I still have the car I will put silicone bushings in it.

If you're interested in a set of Powerflex polyurethane thrust arm/tension strut bushings I have a brand new set (PFF5-4101 street version) I forgot I ordered and don't plan on using. $80 and they're yours (we seem to be fairly local to each other too).

Guys! Just had the EGR Cooler/Intake Manifold replaced under recall for my 2014. WOW. Between that and the new tension struts this car is amazing. 175,000 miles now and drives like new.

Gas mileage has gone up like crazy!

P.S. Amsoil transmission fluid works great in the ZF8HP so far!

Mine was just replaced as well. Was burning through coolant like crazy, and got a CEL for the EGR valve, both related to the recall.

So. Sad to report the car is mechanically dead at 176,000 miles due to HPFP failure.

I am on the fence as to whether to DIY since parts are $$$$ for this one. It's like a new engine or tranny without the benefits of either.

First car I've ever had to die this early. Old Chevy 1500 lasted 20 years w/ 250,000 and is still running to my knowledge! Honda Civic lasted 280,000 and I just got tired of it.

Anyway beware of that ticking time bomb as soon as you get over 120,000mi on the clock.

That is unfortunate.

I would repair, if you are a DIY-er. Pump is around $600-$900. Make sure it has a build date of 2017 and above, those have heavily updated internals to prevent failure. Then 4 injectors (they used to be $80 a piece, not sure now), 1 pressure sensor, 1 fuel rail regulation valve, and fuel filter. The rest can be flushed.

Some of those parts can be bought used if you want maximum money savings. Injectors and other components were shared with the F10 535d as well.

Would a filter before the tank in the return line cause too much backpressure? Overkill?

The question is. Did it send metal through the system? I have to look into it. Still outta town. I am 100% for adding some sort of filter to prevent this from ever happening again. TDI VW owners and Ford owners have had some luck using an additional filter.

In any case this should NEVER be such a catastrophe lol

Luckily I got four injectors from FCP EURO at $100 each. Now $250 each.

Quote in Vegas was 8,500 with around 5k parts (20% markup). So it's on a uhaul going back up to NorCal with me.

You can tell a lot more by pulling the control valve on pump, or the head off with the torx bolts. Careful, it's on a large spring.

New update pumps already have filters inside.

Sorry to hear Wicked. I replaced mine at 118k miles at the dealership. They gave me a 2 yrs unlimited mileage warranty. Just for a little piece of mind. Good luck on the repair if you decide to take it on.

Does anyone out there have a list recommended maintenance after 100k miles they've seen or come up with? I know we're all under CBM, but it would be nice to be proactive on overhauls of major things. I did my HPFP at 118k. Thanks

That was good and proactive, especially if you received the updated pump from dealer, which is most likely. The reason why there are so many cheaper new original pumps available is that the dealers have to sell the new version.

Anyways, I came up with the following for a maintenance plan after 120k. This is not official in any way, and may possibly be very comprehensive.


-Cooling system, ideally at 100-120k: water pump, thermostat, thermostat housing, inlet pipe (under intake manifold), and fresh BMW coolant. They're fairly priced for original parts.

-Accessory belt. Continental non BMW branded is fine.

-Check harmonic balancer/crankshaft pulley for any cracks. They haven't been a big problem, but Corteco brand is $200 and easy to change.

-8HP transmission flush ASAP if never done. If it's been done once, then keep an interval of 60-80k

-Differentials and transfer case fluid change (as applicable)

-Shocks/struts will probably start showing their age soon. Replace along with new mounts

-Suspension bushings, especially the tension strut bushings on front. You will often feel a thumping when braking abruptly when worn.

-Brake fluid flush every 2-3 years at most

-Cabin air filter, consider foam cleaning the HVAC air tract. Consider checking external intake area for leaves.

-Intake air filter (~30k miles?)

-Fuel filter, every 40k miles




As needed, but can be expected:

-Inspect intake manifold for carbon buildup, but it seems to last nicely till over 150k. Use new seal/flaps

-Battery around 5 years. 90Ah AGM battery, and very important: battery registration.

-Driveshaft flex disk, AKA the giubo, inspect and update to all rubber one.

-Windshield cowling trim. Inexpensive, keeps water and leaves out of engine bay area. Looks nice.

-Interior door handle rubber grip may start melting, especially if you use hand lotion. Replace with originals. I see there are Chinese ones available, unsure of quality.


That's all that I could come up with off the top of my head. I'm sure there are others with good ideas. Please add.
