You've got the US MPE and I know it sounds very nice and awesome!

I was aware that M Performance Exhaust for 3/4 Series would not output loud tones similar to what we usually hear from high performance cars, but I was expecting something to be close to what we hear from M Power cars such as M3, M5, etc. Unfortunately, the output for this exhaust came below my expectations. By the way, I had choices other than M Performance such as Akrapovic but I was told by BMW's dealer that any third party exhaust system will be installed in my car will void the 5-warranty granted by the dealer.

Your expectations were right, because the problem is with the producer of the "UE version".
That's the US versione and that's how it should sound:

Have you checked then the code number of your MPE (look at the invoice)?

Yes I have visited the dealer and the parts manager gave me the part number. Yes, this part is an EU that ends with 339 and they promised me to look into the issue and come up with reasonable solution.

Just wanted to know from you: how did you come to conclusion that the American version performs well while the EU lacks the performance? Did you make any side-by-side comparison?

I've found out by my self the different version by checking www.realoem.com, because when I installed my MPE I immediately noticed the different sound in comparison with those videos of american 435i...
Then BMW Italy wrote me (in reply to my question) that BMW Europe is studying the way to omologate the US version: they are perfectly aware that something doesn't work with our "339" model!

Last thing: I was used to the fantastic sound of my BMW Performance Exhaust of my old E91 335xi and so my expectations were "qualified"

My dealer had a 435 with the stock exhaust beside a 435 with the M performance exhaust. He started them both up so I could hear the difference. Both brand new cars so neither exhaust had any miles on them. It was a noticeable difference. Not a lot louder...maybe 20%...but it has a meaner bark to the exhaust note. It has a nice aggressive tone to it but not at all obnoxious sounding. It attracted several costumers to walk over and check it out. Hearing them side by side was a nice comparasion. It made me check the box and spend the extra $$$ for my 335i that I ordered.

The 435 had a dealer installed MPE but my 335 will be a factory installed MPE. I don't know if part numbers will be the same.

Same boat here, after I stared the car I had to physically go around back and look under the car to be sure they hadn't just put the //M tips on. Really disappointing given the cost.

My disappointment is still present after 5000km. MPE improved a little bit, but it is very far from my expectations and from the sound of the US version.
Excuse me Adrock, but I read that you are an american guy, can you tell me the code number of your MPE?

Guys, there's a lot of discussion on 339 vs 340, but the one I bought from U.S. dealer was 18302293774. Does anyone know why this is different than the 340 everyone else got?

A couple of the CA at my dealer made it a point to say they thought my car sounded great under throttle (when everyone was taking the M4 out for a spin I chased after it)

I have the 340 version.

You can appreciate it when you get on the gas, rev it up, etc.

Find a friend and have them drive it around for you. Observe a fly by, you'll hear the difference.

The M performance exhaust is no ricer exhaust. No M3 or M5 exhaust either. Does have a nice tone to it on acceleration. You can tell it is different. But still you can hardly hear it inside the car. My 1M used to set off the alarm of my second car when started up. My 335i with M performance exhaust and catted downpipe just doesn't. I'm thinking of switching to the dinan exhaust.

Please, can you check the product code of your MPE?

Older model. Maybe it lends to the theory new ones sound better?

Took delivery today of my BMW435i M sport Convertible , had the M performance exhaust fitted and M power kit to the engine . Having read your posts here I was a little worried about what the end result would be. Listening to the exhaust after fitting the new one but before engine mapping there wasn't a great deal of difference and I was a little worried . However picking up the car this morning after they had finished mapping the engine ... O.M.G the sound is amazing , nothing like the stock exhaust . Even on cold start sounds better than the normal one but once you get on the road and slip it in to sports plus the deep rich bass sound is soo load , a nice deep rumble when you change gears and the burbling is miles better than the stock one . Just thought you might want to know .

It's normal that the MPE is louder during the very first seconds after cold start-up, but that is due to the westgate valve, not to the exhaust itself
The last 3 number of the product code are "339", aren't they?
In movement and under full acceleration the sound fades away, in my opinion...
