I'm curious. Obviously feel free to ignore these questions, but I really am curious about this topic. I see BMW expanding their line-up, which I think is a smart move if they want to grow, but I'm having a hard time seeing where the gap is. Do you think BMW should have gone more up-line with this car, or down-line (with respect to size and price point)? What car do you think BMW should have made? What differentiating characteristics would that car have versus this one? Consider these open questions for anyone posting. There seems to be a lot of negativity in this thread. I'm curious what people think BMW should have done instead.

Wow. What a disappointing car. The 4GC looks like a GT, not a Gran Coupe model. This car should look like a baby-6GC, not "baby-3GT".

As a person with many years of BMW credentials (see my sig), I can tell you the S4 is a car that can and should be seriously looked at.

Shouldn't this look like a smaller 6 GC?
Why the hell is BMW pumping out all of these models?? It is so excessive.

I personally do not think this car fills any gap, BMW already have models to fill the whole range. That's why I wrote that it is pointless. It is quite obvious to me why BMW create a model, of course they do not create it if they don't think it's gonna make profit. Now, feel free to quote my message with reasons why the car is not pointless in your opinion. I just wrote what I think about this new model and to express myself in a public forum. Your need to contradict my personal opinion reminds me of a work colleague of mine. It doesn't matter what anyone says, he always needs to come up with something to say to contradict any statement made by another person which is quite annoying. |

Thank you for that. I am surprised by these statements honestly. I guess I am compelled to look to Audi at this point. It is hard to ignore. It will either make a very happy Audi convert of me, or force me to return to BMW with even more conviction (long time BMW driver also, have not owned any other brands, save my DD GTI). I am kind of looking forward to it now. Maybe I just need a change. |

There's no debate on the price or line-up name (renaming to 4-series was actually a smart move by BMW on the coupe instead of 3series coupe...)... I hope you are all agree that launching the 4series is one of BMW's cheapest campaigns on engineering and design right next to X6...as they spent minimal for engineering and design by using X5 as the master...just a bit of tweak here and there...and Voila! You have an X6! Now I used X6 as an example...because that's a great example IMO of smartness: same design and chassis of X5...BUT, they made a small effort in making sure that when they are introducing a sport activity coupe that it actually is different from their X5 lineup...now you actually have a CHOICE of selecting different cars...otherwise, X6 has been one of the cheapest and yet most successful niches of BMW (target sale expected 20,000...actual 80,000) I think this should have gone the same here with 4series GC...the car is great by itself...by if you put it right beside the F30...I'm almost lost... BMW should target market stealing not overlapping...that was my 2 cents... personally, a 4 series GC would have been a nice upgrade after F30 if I'd knew that I'd be riding a different car... |

Nicely done BMW!
The only reason why there are so many hater is because they want one and don't want to admit it. When BMW (or any other manufacturer) introduce a new model I don't like, I don't get all bowed up and start acting like a woman peeking on PMS. The amount of passion and effort some of these people are displaying leads me to believe they are trying to find reason not to like it. This whole debate seems so easy to me. If you don't like it, don't buy it. Sales will ultimately decide for BMW whether or not they've done the right thing. The 3 GT and 5 GT don't sell. I won't buy either one, because I don't like them. I'm not going to spend hours going on rants accumulating photos, facts & opinions, making a bunch of derogatory comments trying to offend people that do like them. I will be buying a 4 GC because I think at this point it's the best looking non-M car BMW is making. |

I think it almost goes without saying that if the 4 GC is successful then there will be another one, and there will be an M version along with it. That is to say that once the car proves itself, an M is a no brainer. Whether there is time to fit the M in this generation as well is not known. We haven't seen M2 test cars yet either. But it's too early to rule that one out right? I'm not saying that I believe an M4 GC is at the same phase of development as the M2 may be (especially in light of what I've just said above), but simply that I think it still has some chance for production. At the same time, if I were the market for an M3 soon, and assuming I liked the 4 GC, I would not wait around to see where things falls with an M4 GC. |
