I've seen this video:

But someone in the comments of the video mention Euro Spec you have to 'tap into the existing outer blinker wires'. How do I go about doing that? Am I also still following the same wiring on the lights themselves like it's mentioned in the description?

You purchased the OEM Harness so you are fine.
But the harness is simply for pre-LCI to LCI? Euro Spec is different, no?

Harness isn’t sold in USA.

It’s a Euro Part only.

Hmm that makes sense. Hopefully it's that easy then.

Bought mine from IkonMotoSports from Ebay.

Reverse lights don't work for some reason, It's probably the harness, they said they'll send me a new one, will update later.
Other than that, I'm happy with them.

So I just installed my blackline tailights. The turn signal on the inner tailights don't flash. Any reason why? I know it has to be the harness but any idea what about it? I think the harness I was sent wasn't OEM but I don't know that it would make a difference?

Did it have a bmw label around the wiring or in a plastic bag with a BMW Part Number sticker on it?

It's came in a bag with the printed copy of the BMW retrofit instructions. Don't recall about the logo though. Still, OEM or not, it's just supplying power no? I'll see what happens after I do all the coding I guess.

I didn’t even need to code with the wiring harness.

It should have had a BMW Part Number 61122410220 on the bag.

Also a big wrap around sticker on the wiring.

If not, you received a non-OEM harness that isn’t wired properly.

(Also, are the wire colors as below?)

Nope, not that. I'm a bit skeptical though that the official harness alone would remove the need to code though. At the end of the day all it is are wires feeding power from the light to the trunk. I will say that there might be a difference in quality though, since when I tried to plug in the right side green cable to the harness in the trunk, I think the cable got mashed a bit and I couldn't plug it all the way in for a click. The blue one was fine though. At this point though I'll see what happens if I code since I couldn't get the green cable out completely once I pushed it in.

Case in point this post that may answer my question:

http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1373916

OP says he used OEM harness too. Didn't get fixed until he coded.

well, I had coded for the LEDs, but prior to installing I had my istep upgraded at dealer, which wipes out all coding, as you know.

Didn't think about that when installing several weeks later and everything installed fine.

Wasn't until a month later when I suddenly remembered and went, hmmm.....why did that work?

That makes more sense. Lol

I mean if the official harness came with a circuit board like the new ones from USR, it makes sense that there's no coding required. But not when it's just some copper wire with a connector soldered at the end.

When I installed my OEM taillights using the OEM retrofit harness my lights worked perfectly fine prior to coding. The only thing the coding did was overrode the lighting checks upon start up. You get flickering lights without coding as a result of the check picking up the LED retrofit.

Suggest you look at how you did your repinning when you installed the harness. If it's not the pinning than it's most likely a flawed harness or taillight.

Thanks.

That confirms the mystery of what I experienced.

I dont understand. I bought my LCI/harness combo from schmeidmann and didnt have to code shit. No flickering. I've had the lights on for about 6 months. Could it be that my ECU was updated to latest version about a year ago? Dealership was diagnosing a problem and updated it.

Anyone have a cheaper or better place to get these from besides schmiedmanns?

And if not why is the “kit” so much more than buying the harness and lights separately? And what are those extra 2 pieces in the kit pictured?

Looking like just around 600$ including shipping, this the going rate ish?

Looks like uk eBay has them for about 520 for the lights, then adding the harness for roughly 40, save a couple bucks.

Hey Sean, just to be clear, those 2 grey pieces that they sell are drip trails for your lights. The LCI lights are a different shape and those trails help divert water as a result of a different shape.

Here are the part numbers:

51497453333
51497453334

I bought them for about $70 CAD so if you're buying them separate on ebay, you should factor in the price of these things into the overall cost, and see if it actually saves you anything. Also, if you're not in a rush, might I suggest you wait til another eBay 15-20% off day?

Awesome, good to know on those 2 pieces, so if I'm buying off Ebay just get the lights, the OEM harness and the 2 drop trails total. And ya right now they are doing a 20% off which is why I wanted to pull the trigger

But there isn't a cheaper place people who have these got them from I'm assuming?

Not that I know of. I bought my lights and harness of eBay but the drip trails at my dealership.
