Question Dinatronics Performance Stage 1 Tuner - Affected by Gas Type?

Does anyone have any experience with the Dinatronics Performance Tuner Stage 1?

I have a 428I GC. We only get 90 Octane out here, will that cause a problem with the tuner?

Is it worth the upgrade? (I like P&P Solutions)

Oh most definitely!! Plus the upgrade runs with your car warranty. There are cheaper. However if one of the other brands cook your engine, you eat the cost. Just speaking from experience, get the exhaust at the same time. You won't regret it.

91 octane is minimum although all tests and measurements we produce are based on 93 since that's what the vast majority have access too.

Do you know what kind of impact 91 has on the advertised gains vs using dinantronics on 93? Is it noticeable or significant?

Not significant but perhaps noticeable depending on the application and the overall difference in power being advertised. Less then 5% power difference in general and probably closer to half that.

So when you show the (lower) power output of the N26 is that power based on 93 octane too ?

Got it thanks for the clarification!

So on the n20 we're talking about probably a ~2 hp difference in max gain when on 91 vs. 93

The way I understand it:

If an N20 produces 300hp on 93 octane (with say a 5% difference) it produces 285hp on 91 octane

We only have 90 here in alaska and the local bmw dealership (now a Dinan dealer) is recommending the tune.

I believe Colorado also caps out at 90 Octane (someone could correct me if I am wrong). In their case I believe it is elevation related and the lower octane fuel is just as efficient at elevation. Ultimately whatever the premium gas is in your market is, use it.

No. Based in California everything is 10% ethanol. We actually blend our own 93 since it doesn't exist here (91 is the max at the pump). 91 octane mixed with 100 octane race gas to produce a 93 octane mix.

Colorado is hot and high in the summer where most people live, Denver, Co Springs, Grand Junction, Fort Collins. It would have the same problem in the summer that I had in Arizona at high altitude (5000+ feet), in that you'd need high octane to limit knock? I had a wrx with a tune and went to a larger intercooler and always used the highest octane available (91), but it still occasionally went into limp mode. Being at sea level and often colder than standard, we wouldn't have that problem here in Alaska, hence why I believe no one imports 91. In the winter in Colorado maybe that makes sense, but we are taking quite high density altitude for most of the state in the summer and easily 90+ degrees F, I'd think that higher octane would be better, no?

Dear Dinan

I had my stage 1 installed on Tuesday and had it dyno' d today. I also have the Dinan exhaust. I only pulled 250hp. Is the tune working? Shouldn't I be pulling more hp if the tune was installed correctly ??

So is that Approx. 10 - 14 HP gain worth it?

So with my current setup at around 245 stock, I should get around 275 or so with the upgrade? and no deterioration in MPG?
