Quoted $1k for spring install labor
This is absurd right? I called the guy and when I told him what I wanted (Dinan springs) his first question was "why?" And proceeded with a lengthy discussion about how BMW knows best.
Pretty sure he didn't want the work. How much should this realistically cost? |

The quote is of course excessive. Motivation: unclear. Just look for another shop. Where are you based? |

I'll probably just wait till spring and do it myself, would be a fun diy project. |

I just got quoted $1465 from an independent European repair shop here outside of Baltimore for a coil spring replacement. I think it's ridiculous, both your quote and mine.

OP. I see you are in the Chicagoland area. I had the DINAN springs and Koni struts installed on my 340i in 2018 by this place.
https://www.rnmperformanceauto.com/ The should be able to give you a better price on the labor, and they also allow you to bring in your own parts. They are out in Palatine, IL. Ask for REI

These guys quoted $600 for a coilover install for me a few years ago. They are in Roselle and have a pretty good reputation as a BMW specialized shop.
http://www.lukegworkshop.com/ I ended up going with springs/shocks and installed them myself. That would be my recommendation if you are handy with basic tools....Once the weather warms up of course |

For springs only, I think $400 will be a fair amount to charge. The rears springs are really easy to install. I did the job myself with no prior suspension work experience and it took around 6 hours maybe. I have the non-adaptive suspension, not sure if that makes it easier or not.

I think if the shop questions what you'd like to do and further more lecture you upon wanting to mod your vehicle it's time for another shop. That sounds so unprofessional. 300-600 would be a fair labor price point for me.

But I'm glad he shot me down because I'm going to DIY it. Found this place https://gearheadworkspace.com/ where you can rent garage time with a lift. Honestly, I mostly do mods for the learning experience anyways. |
