F30 Horn

Random question...

Does the horn on the F30, sound ridiculously loud and funny sounding?

I haven't used it much before ... anyhow I gave my sister in law a beep as I drove past her today and she rang me to say I had the most weirdest sounding horn.. so when I got back to the office I checked it out and I do. It almost sounds flat, but loud, broken.

Any information on this would be appreciated

There are 2 horns, one low and one high frequency. So if either isn't working you'll have a very strange sounding horn. I missed the low freq connection when I replaced my bumper. My horn sounded like a squeaky dog toy.

Yes, absolutely. It's terrible. Not as terrible as the Mercedes W202 C180 my wife owned for some years. That was RUBBISH, hot air moan.

Now my old E90 325i's horn was the best in the business. Loud and authoritative. It was vocal and in charge. Just had the right note, in line with the 325's engine note. Both were/are terrific.

Like you, I don't use my horn that much as it's not useful anyway, but when I do, I always feel a little let down by it. Almost as if it can't be taken seriously.

My wife's W203 C180K's horn is much better.

My horn sounds like that too.... i haven't touched any of the connections there though. I just thought the F30 horn came standard sounding a tad... ummm ... yeahhh dodgy.

Hmmm, I think mine sounds pretty normal unless I break it

I don't recall my E92 horn sounding much different either.

Can't imagine they'd botch it from the factory, but I do think its something that's easily broken if any tinkering has been done at the front of the car.
They're on each side under the headlights anyway. Should be reachable by partially removing the front wheel arch covers.

Yeah it appears that one side has stopped working, but not through any tinkering... car is untouched as the day it was delivered... maybe a fuse?
