403m wheel corrosion - experiences?
I'm bracing myself for a 'chat' with the dealership about a warranty change on my wheels, seeing as it seems to be a very common occurrence. I've not got any signs of corrosion yet, but after a careless tyre fitter yesterday I'm sure I won't be far off....
I've got a small area of kerbing on the nsf wheel, which I've lacquered over to protect & my osr wheel has a stone chip near one of the wheel bolt holes, which I've also protected with lacquer. This wheel also had a scuff introduced on the centre bore yesterday when having a puncture repair. Would be interested in hearing actual experiences on claiming under the warranty, successfully or not & the eventual outcome if you challenged the dealer decision. Over to you.... |

wheels
depends on which warranty you have and which dealer.
3 year usually no problem if no damage from kerbing. if a used auc then probably no chance |

Replaced mine at the end of the three year warranty period. It was an auc car but still had the original warranty running. Was not very straightforward as the warranty had expired a few days before the dealership sent the paperwork to BMW so they were trying to get out of it. A strongly worded email later and it was sorted. But yes, if only on AUC warranty it would be unlikely they would have replaced them.

No probs chaning mine...
all four of my 403M's were replaced just before the end of the 3 year warranty.
- No hassle whatsoever. Done through the dealer where I bought the car as a 6-month old AUC ex-demonstrator. In fact I had gone in to raise the issue on 3 wheels but the salesman who checked them out felt that the 4th was looking a bit ropey so he opted to replace all four! |

I’m currently sat in an unnamed dealership while my 442m’s are getting swapped over due to corrosion.
On a slightly different note, I really hate dealerships. They are retarded and I wonder how they manage to do business with their inept and shockingly bad customer service. 😡 |

This is what I was trying to tease out in the thread, actual experiences of forum members where they've attempted to claim under the 3 year car warranty.
From my research, it seems that there are varying instances of success, with rumours that BMW are asking for contributions for any kerb damaged wheels even though corrosion is no where near the kerbing. Would be good for people to know where they stand before approaching dealerships with corrosion issues. Thanks for contributions so far. |

The problem is that an area of kerbing doesn't need to be anywhere near the area of corrosion - it's all to do with galvanitic reactions, and the chemistry of those reactions.
Some dealerships seem to take a more lenient view - especially if you bought the car new. If AUC then it seems to be less likely - but still entirely possible. In my case, my AUC car had corrosion on all 4 wheels. One wheel had significant kerbing on it. The offer was to replace the other 3 wheels, FOC. |

In such a case, it is entirely reasonable for a contribution to costs to be asked for. |

I had all 4 replaced with kerbing on a couple of them FOC. Car was coming up to 3 years old and didn't pay a penny. Would say it depends on the dealer as Marshall wanted a contribution but stratstone didn't

I bought ours AUC and viewed before it was prepped. One wheel was kernes - 2/3 inches. It was November so we said don’t refurbish it and took it back in March and got all 4 replaced FOC no issues. Was in manufacturer warranty not auc warranty at that point

I had all four replaced outside of the 3 year warranty by almost 9 months.
I had kerbed at least two of them. I have paid for the warranty extension but that clearly states that wheels aren't included. Really impressed with BMW and my local dealer. |
