2014 BMW 335i  [0.00]
It sucks that it's a new car, but since you purchased it, I'm assuming you plan on keeping it for 4-5 years at least. In that timeframe, a transmission replacement is hardly going to affect the resale. Especially if it was done as warranty service by BMW.

Also, if you sell to a private party, seeing as this may be one of the last few manual transmission BMW 3 series available, I bet whoever buys it will just be happy that they found one to begin with. I myself was trying to find a new 340i M Sport 6MT last year but settled on a used 335i sport line 6MT with the intention of getting the G20 340 6MT. I obviously got screwed though so I'll probably just keep it a bit longer and pray for a G80 6MT.

Yea, I plan on keeping it, but just in case, I wanted to make sure I wouldn't get screwed by that. I knew this was gonna be the last 3 with a manual for a while, and the 340, especially with the mppsk really is a great daily. I hope the G20 M3 will be a manuel, and I'll shoot for that.

Only the 4 cylinder will be manual. Seems you have to go domestic or Japanese if you want a manual.

TL;DR summary: Nothing's 100%. Even if it's a 1 in a million chance...that's still a non-zero chance and someone's gonna experience a busted transmission. That 99.999% good to go rate is why BMW (and other manufacturers) generally have 0 qualms about replacing a transmission for free under warranty and deeply apologizing to you. It's prohibitively expensive to try and get that extra fraction of a percentage, generally speaking. The amount of effort for that final digit regardless of the product is almost never worth the monumental increase in effort it takes to get there.

Clearly a warranty repair. Had that happen on my previous 2014 3 series.

Well, technically, don't I have a new transmission already, I mean its 1200 miles. I hear what your saying, and I have already agreed. Ordering from Germany, will be a few weeks. Thing is, I haven't even made a payment yet on my new car. I'm gonna be paying for a x1 loaner for three to four weeks!
Warranty repair BMW should be paying for the loaner.... also it's fairly common if they are going to have the car for around a month you can get BMW NA to kick in a portion or a whole payment especially if you financed through bmwfs. Call customer service and start there, might need the dealer to make some calls on their end for you but it's referenced all the time.

Yea, I meant my car payment, was paying for the loaner, lol. Yea, I'll try BMW NA, as I am financed through BMW financial, it just sucks, know what I mean?

I'll be ordering a new 2018 340i RWD 6MT next month before the ordering window closes. I'm not holding out any hope the new G20 M340i shows up as a 6MT option. I'll keep until my left leg gives out..I'll be in my early 70s by then

This seems like the way to go. I'm thinking of trading in my 2016 340 for a 2019 that I will buy CPO in 2021 see if I can score an awesome deal.

Ask, BMW Financial will most likely give you a pass on the monthly payment.

It's a car, not a carton of milk. One bad "part" doesn't mean the whole thing is spoiled. Replace it under warranty. If the car is out of the shop within the amount of days mandated by your state to declare the car a lemon, then move on and drink up!

I got a similar discount on my fully loaded 340i M Sport ZTR a few years ago. $62k sticker, $51K selling price iirc. It's not too absurd.

PUMA case means that before the transmission claim is approved, BMW is going to send a Field Engineer/Investigator to inspect the vehicle and ECU data to make sure that the defect is not related to user error or any possible aftermarket mods. It's standard procedure when it's a large warranty claim.

As long as you have no modifications and didn't "Money Shift," you'll be fine but it might take a little longer than usual. Good luck.

JEDL01,

Hey, you still have 5 good gears to drive with.

It's understandable that you would be upset.
There's also a need to understand that a trans is an easily replaceable part that will not affect the value of your future used car, not in the least.

My 340i was only about 10 months old when I hit a curb/center median at low speed.
The damage done was rather shocking, but then hard concrete can be pretty darn solid.
I needed a new steering rack. My 340i drives just like it did before the damage, meaning, just like new.

My trans was replaced in December for the (common?) 2nd-gear synchro problem. The old one never pooped/popped out of 6th though.

Just got it back. Is it ok that the paper work says RMFD -6 speed , they are telling me its new, but BMW classifies parts that way?
