But...still...£2.5k price tag, B&W, 1100w, it's going to sound pretty special. We just need TodmordenLad to test it for a couple of years to confirm
Years ago I became interested in home audio systems I was amazed at the power of a 100w Cyrus amp through some 4ohms acoustic energy 109s speakers (very much entry level stuff) incredible sound like hearing the music for the first time, makes these 1000 watt car systems sound like transistor radios to be honest.

Very true, the car is too challenging an environment to come close to what home audio is capable of. Just comparing car systems.

But...I couldn't have listened to The Planet Suite whilst driving through the Great Glen in my living room, or Perfect Kiss on the M60, or Sweet Home Alabama in...erm...Louisiana. Music and drives combine magically for me, so the better the system the happier I am.

(And since I've had the decent system, nowhere more adventurous or majestic than the M4 and M5, at least Portishead and Massive Attack are fitting!).

Agree with both of you on your different points, MB and Wills2. No decent car system will ever be able to compete with a decent home hifi, but a decent car system will always be better than a crap one.
From what I've read, the B&W systems in JLR and Volvo cars take some beating, but they're not cheap, of course, and if the pennies end up being a challenge with this new car, I'll favour engine/ drivetrain upgrade options over sound, although both matter

Completely concur on the last point too. Spent far too long punting around a 2.0 four pot diesel Disco last winter, lacking adaptive suspension but otherwise nigh on identical to my own HSE-L. My firm opinion was that I would far rather have a vastly lower specced SE in my mechanical spec than the unsuited mechanicals in the nice clothing.
