Just got my 440i MPPSK back from its 3-year MOT/end of warranty inspection, 17k mileage.

All good, no issues, but the service manager said you've obviously just put new tyres on, and they're looking good. No, I replied, they're the originals - which he found hard to believe as there was still 7mm on the fronts, and 5mm on the rears.

Previous experience of fast BMWs is that they can go through tyres rapidly, so I was a bit surprised - has something changed in the set-up of the cars and this is typical wear for this car?

I'm running the standard Bridgestone RFTs on a mix of town/ country/ motorway use. I don't tend to fling it round bends, but I do make full use of the performance wherever I can.

I've heard others mention here that their Bridgestone got 30k miles on them!

48k before the 1st set of rear Bridgestone RFTs were changed on mine.

Fronts still had 4mm.

Ride and handling much improved once Michelin Pilot Sport 4 non run flat were fitted.

Wow, that's a lot of miles!

And I can believe the difference in the Michelin - the Bridgestone are OK for a RFT, but very skittish/crashy over imperfect surfaces

In a way, it's a shame they last so long, I've been thinking about what to replace them with since the day I bought the car!

First owner covered 47k in just under 3 years so mostly motorway miles.

As you mention, the Bridgestone RFT didn't give me much confidence when pushing on.

Ive had the same tyres on my wheels over two cars, about 5 years, and they still look brand new lol.
It's only about 20k miles in total though.

Same! Factory RFTs -4 years old at 20k and they're still at 5mm. Even track days don't seem to bother them - like rocks instead of tyres!

I have the same car and tyres and it's unbelievable how long they last.
Changed the rears last year at 40k Miles (fair bit of motorway on the work run). Fronts still have around 4mm and now at 45k.

Bridgestone RFTs are really only any good for straight lines, so you'll get plenty of miles out of them. In all other respects they're pretty much the worst tyre available; rock hard and little traction or grip.

I tend to get ~20K miles out of my MP4S, but I enjoy the driving far more.

You're so right. The feeling of skating on ice is almost comical sometimes with them.

17k miles I'd expect them to be in decent condition still.

I'd be very annoyed if I had to replace tyres more than every 20k, ideally 30k.

With a set of winter tyres too, that means my summer tyres should last 3-4 years, winters probably 5-6 years, as they probably only see 1/3 the mileage the summer tyres do.

I've had the same issue on all my previous BMWs, so I was surprised to see how even the wear was on this one...

One of the BMW technicians told me previously that speed bumps knocked the alignment out, leading to the uneven wear, but that sounded more like an excuse for a design flaw!

Definitely. Doesn't seem to be enough give in the tyres, so even small imperfections knock the car off line

Same for me. I got 45k on the original Pirelli P Zero RF's and they still had a little over 3mm when I ditched them for the MPS4s
