2016 340i engine trouble codes
Scanned my engine for codes today and got 2 codes but the check engine light isn't on. Code 1: P0172 (system too rich Bank1). Code 2: 118002 (status active-mixture adaption: mixture too fat). Does anyone know what these mean or have an advice?
Thanks in advance. |

Too rich means you're either getting too much fuel or not enough air. I'd imagine the first is much less likely than the second.
If you haven't changed your air filter in a while, that's the first thing I'd do and maybe you'll get lucky. But, if you don't have a cel, then it could have been just a temporary glitch which registered. Not sure if the dates show on the codes, but they might.

Changed the air filter last time i did oil change about 1000 miles ago. Googled the codes and said something about too much gas not enough air. Also said something about air flow sensor or something to that nature. No mods on car either.

OP...spray the maf with a MAF cleaner and be careful with it...treat it like eggs. There's a very fine wire in it.
Also, a MAF code often points to something else. On my other bmws, it usually meant an air leak, but usually a lean condition. I wonder if our car maybe overcorrects when its got an airleak? I really don't know...but I know that MAF codes don't always mean the MAF is an issue.
