What constitutes fast? My 328 with JB+ does 0-60 in about 5 sec flat and puts down close to 250HP/300Tq at the wheels. Some of the fastest cars on the road are high 3 sec, low 4's. You're talking about a second difference. Its like one poster said, at some point, what does it matter.
For context, the E90 328i replaced by the F30 28i did it in over 6 seconds and didn't have extra power sitting on the table. 200whp and 190wtq and the E90 was "somewhat fast".

If its night time and Im making all green lights, ok, maybe 24. I get 33-35 highway. If I am inching along in LA traffic stop and go, I get like 16mpg.

No possible way a 335 is getting high 20's city. Maybe highway. Heavier car, larger displacement engine, no possible way.
the only was is if it's an ActiveHybrid 3 then it gets probably 25 city?

The cars I am currently looking at are both 2015 335i x-drives with identical M packages pretty well loaded. One has the 19" upgrade wheels which are lovely but not a deal maker/breaker for me. That car has 23K on it and they want $30K and unwilling to move. It is with a small Euro specialty shop that has a good reputation. The other has 40K on it with the standard 18" M package wheels and is $24K at an authorized BMW dealer with a good reputation as well.
Determining what engine you want helps narrow down the search. I was coming from driving 6 cylinder cars for 15 years and never considered 4 cylinder models when I got my CPO 335. Had MPE and 19 wheels. The 19 are harsher just because of less sidewall rubber, but run flats enhance that stiff feeling. Changing to non run flats can help improve ride quality.

I see 911's and M3's plodding along in traffic all day long with the rest of us, just burning gas and going 10 mph. Occasionally they get an onramp blast or if they really want to go for it, a speeding ticket. Whats the point? Oh know thats like 'car guy' blasphemy but really, a commuter street car that does 0-60 in 5 seconds is plenty of fast in our country.

OP, I would get the 328 and save your money. Statistically the n20 has been a little more reliable and for $200 you can get JB+ which puts down close to 335 stock power. You'll get better MPG, a lighter car, pay less for insurance and registration but the drawback is exhaust. Active sound makes the car sound fine in the cabin but outside, the exhaust is like an accord... M Sport exhaust is an axle back system that sounds great though and can be had for like $800+ install.

8spd auto + eco pro + doesnt see over 3000 RPM. I dont beat on the car. I own plenty of fast cars already, this is a highway beater. I also dont sit in traffic with it. I average 4-500 miles to a tank.

I enjoy the additional power from the 335. I think you will too.

Is it worth the extra $3,500 to go 335?

About my needs:
1. I drive 25-30K per year. Almost entirely highway miles. Need reliability.
2. I want something quick and fun to drive.
3. Would like to have a little growl to the car... sound sporty but not obnoxious.
4. Looking to get 4 years out of the car.

Thank you for your input!
For only $3500 more, yes. You will enjoy the car more plus get most of that back at resale.

One comment I'll make, is that I've not found the n55 powered cars to be particularly fuel efficient. I don't know how people are achieving some of the high mpg figures, but don't assume this is the norm if you get a 335i. I typically see about 15.7 mpg in the city, and 20-something on the highway if I make an effort. The very best I've achieved is high 20s, I've never seen 30 mpg. My typical average overall is about 16mpg. I don't drive aggressively, but i "enjoy" the car on occasion within the confines of the law and safety/sanity.

In summary the 335i isn't exactly a thirsty pig but it's not a sipper either. I just wanted to give input since this topic has come up several times in this thread.

That said, I didn't get it to save money on gas, and I didn't expect it to be very fuel efficient.

I bought my 2015 335i only 2 weeks ago. Buy the 335. No question. It's a thrill. You'll get most of your $ back when you sell it someday.

Faster than your car. I had a modded 03 Cobra that ran high 11s, I would consider that unarguably fast. A bolt on tuned 335i is what I would consider somewhat fast, hence why I said that.

The point is some people like to go fast, you don't always get a ticket. Take care.

I have gotten great gas mileage compared to my 05 325xi, and i mean significantly better MPG. I mostly drive on the highway 1 exit to work and back home and i get on it quite often on my way home and im still doing better at the pump. 05 325xi = 22 HW MPG and in my 2015 335IX = 29 HW MPG. With 320HP you have to come to expect to have the gas mileage it lists, however the 325xi and 184HP you'd think it would be slightly better but for obvious reasons in the AT's and such BMW has come a long way since 2005!

My mom drove a 2014 428 coupe a few years back and it felt just as fast as my V6 accord. So... When I upgraded from my accord, I knew that I wanted something with a little more power.

Without a doubt, you do not NEED anything more than the 4-banger. I'm a gear head, so I went for the extra power. I WANTED the option of 400+ HP.

I feel for the 328 guys though, whenever they ask anything about modifications, there's always some tool that says they should have gotten a 335.

If you don't mind taking a trip to north jersey there is a silver 2015 335i with 20K miles at a dealer near me for $27,700 (no "m" sport though)

Just a heads up for OP if you get the 335 then upgrade it the mpg goes to shit. My M235 is worse than my X5.
I get decent fuel economy from my 335i. It is around 9l/100km or 26mpg. 70% highway driving and 30% spirited back road fun.

Is your car stock? Stage 1? Stage 2? My stage 2 N55 is horrible fuel economy.

I am getting closer to making a deal on a car.

What suggested mods should I do based on MY needs:

1. I want the car to sound great, both inside and out.
2. The stock HP is plenty enough for me.
3. I want to maximize my MPG as I will be doing a fair amount of driving, 80% highway.

Thanks all!

Ok well your MPG has no bearing on my original statement for a modded car.

Here's my advice... take any money you plan on spending on mods and divert it to a newer/lower mileage ideally a CPO. I wouldn't confine yourself to local dealers either. I know several friends who bought CPOs from across the country. Costs about $1000 to ship.

Even with that said, there are plenty near you that I would consider before the two you described.

You are suggesting $30k vehicles for someone looking at $20-$25k vehicles.

More is always (usually better) but thats not the point here.
