Melted Insulation

You can see in the picture that the insulation on the wire for the hood release has melted on the sensor. Was driving back to San Diego from Vegas in about 95°+ in direct sunlight. Not sure if this has happened to anyone else? Looked at other engine bay pics and it is always laying across the sensor area, which I initially thought was the issue.

Is your car still under factory warranty? The dealer should replace it at no charge. All car manufacturers perform hot weather testing and these material related failures are usually addressed early. But suppliers vary and so do at times variations in material being used.

Very interested in dealer response. Please update this thread with the resolution.

I don't think it is from sunlight, or I would have caught on fire since day 1.

The cable is mechanical, so there's no current running through it to cause it to heat up. That leaves the sensor as the likely culprit. What sensor is it? That looks like a hefty gauge wire plugged into it.

Isn't that the radiator inlet? That would be hot as shit in the conditions you described.

That's what I was thinking it was but that just leaves the question as to why most have it in the same location from the factory?

I'm not entirely sure. I would recommend maybe getting some DEI heat-resistant tape for that cable and covering it in the area around the radiator inlet.

So yesterday I opened my eyes and realized that it was in fact the coolant inlet hose but I don't see how the cable could have been planned to go over that if it would be getting that hot?

Coolant shouldn't get hot enough to do that, or the hoses would melt too.
