Don't Buy DELPHI Coils

I bought 6 delphi coils a year ago but I did less then 5000km with the car.

One coil is already bad.

My OEM Coils with 100k miles are still good.

I saw some reviews today on these coils and I'm not the only one with issues.

I agree I replaced my perfectly fine OEM bmw coils with Delphi coils in cylinder 6 failed causing a bad misfire. Under 7k on them.

Worst part is that my OEM coils are made by Delphi, but they seems to be made a lot better. (By BMW SPECS maybe?) and are a bit heavier

Either the rubber boot or plastic handle is where they cut costs, it looks like my set the rubber boot is where the costs were cut.

Question is why are you all (by your own statements) replacing perfectly fine coils?

Replace them when they fail, won't happen to all at once, so wait till one of the originals fail THEN replace them all....

Preventive maintenance. Did you ever drove a BMW running on 5 cylinders ? it's really bad lol. I had a hard time just to get the car moving from a red light (my car is 6mt).

You should be able to get about 250hp just on 5 working cylinders which makes the car, still, faster than a 328i with 240hp.

Coils are rated for 100k miles.

thanks for pointing this out. I'm thinking about changing the coils on my 235i soon. The OE delphi's are also listed on ECs tuning but they are pricier, no doubt.

Hmm, interesting. I replaced my original coils with the Delphis just under 20k miles ago. Haven't had any misfire issues. I kept my originals, so if one or more go bad, I figure I can swap out to keep me running. Which reminds me, I should get some new plugs soon.

I have yes driven with a bank shut down it SUCKS, I think this is the 2nd thread I have read where the owner replaced coils prophylactic and it ended poorly. So two votes for OEM coils on the N55 at least at this point and probably just when they fail.

I changed my OEM ones preventatively before any tuning, driving on one bad coil was pretty disappointing. Car shakes , you can tell something is wrong, a CEL and basically no acceleration. But guess what I ordered brand new Delphi's and plugs again preventively and keep a OEM in the car just in case.
