First custom made turbo blanket for B58

It is possible to be done. Not everybody is a mechanic of course so depends on your skill. For me, the blanket made a huge difference in engine bay temperatures - really impressed - it's night and day difference

I finally got around to put on my turbo blanket. Took me a while to get around it, I apologize for those who I left waiting on my review, however here it finally is.

The installation I didn't end up doing it myself. I gave it to my shop in which they said the installation was pretty tedious and somewhat complex. It took them around 3 to 4 hours to install it. For sure they recommend to have a second set of hands because doing it alone can be a little more frustrating.

In terms of performance and heat management I have to say, I am very impressed with how much heat it contains. Most of the heat I use to feel when opening the hood is gone. Engine bay temps dropped significantly just by the feel of it. Still have to get some logs done to see the overall IAT difference.

Here are some pics of my engine bay and the turbo blanket. Turbo blanket also helped big time keeping my catch can cooler since I retrofitted the BMS catch can to sit right on top of the turbo manifold to keep my stock airbox, which I also highly recommend to keep IATs lower.

Would you mind sharing your process for installing that oil catch can in that location? I removed mine to put the stock intake back in and would love to put the catch can where you put yours.

Stock housing so our 800 will fit. Maybe Vargas would fit too. But things like big boost they would have to do custom

the GC+ in specific is what I have in mind. That's a different housing than stock though.

Yeah I would say it should - the housing is not different but nobody will be 100% able to confirm it as we don't have the manifolds next to each other

I know this is not the appropriate thread for this but maybe some other people wondered how I did it. Anyways here you go! Pretty simple nothing crazy. All I did was get a nut and bolt and utilized the existing BMS Oil Catch can bracket and attached it to a tab that was right behind the intake. All F30s have it, but I have seen some F30s with a different spec that utilize that factory tab for something else. My tab was completely free in my case. The BMS catch can has multiple holes on top to screw on the bracket from, so just pick the one that works best, for me it was the one on the corner. It might seem a little sketchy but I have had 0 issues with this and it is very sturdy, just make sure to torque it down properly and you'll be fine. From there I just cut down the hoses length to match the new location and done! Took me 15 minutes. (Sorry I don't know how to flip the images vertically)

I can see the manifold install was complicated. If I only bought and installed the turbo blanket and not the manifold blanket, can I get away with not having to take a tool to any of my parts? Also, what has ptp got over Design Engineering's turbo blanket?

Manifold blanket is the easy part. Turbo blanket is the hard part.

The turbo blanket is the hardest part. The manifold blanket only requieres the removal of the intake and heatshield. Getting all the way down to the turbo and removing the turbo bracket is what makes everything 10x more complex. If that turbo bracket didn't exist the install would be a breeze.

Does DE have a B58 turbo blanket available? I haven’t seen any other one made yet? *just curious

Maybe the B58 turbo needs a custom blanket. ECS has the T3 blanket fitting the 340 but I'm not so sure.
