@MHD Tuning
I'm looking to pull the trigger on this today. I currently am '16 340i MPPSK, catless, JB4, intake, with access to E-85. I have the MHD app installed on my android device and plan to order the K DCAN cable today. Here's my question: I don't have the Android bluetooth connection for my JB4, I just use the steering column stalk to control maps. Do you recommend getting the bluetooth connection for JB4? Does it make for a better experience with the MHD BEF or do you not really need to control anything through the JB4 anymore? Thx T.

As for the bluetooth part, not really sure what your asking. If you're just asking if Bluetooth is more convenient then yes, makes everything a lot easier. I don't have a JB4 on this car but I had it on my last one, and the bluetooth made life a lot easier.

Any ETA on support for the Dorch Engineering HPFPs (Stage 1 or 2)? Their website suggests MHD is working on it.

For MHD standalone flashing (without a JB4 installed) do you use the "Flash an MHD map" or the "Flash a Backend Map" option?

Initially I had a Jb4 installed and used the backend flash option, but I wasn't satisfied with the results I was getting. Logging didn't look good, high AFR results. Seemed like the JB4 was interfering somehow. I removed the JB4 and reflashed with the Stage 2 E30 OTS map and I've been much happier with the results. |

Here's one of the logs with the JB4 and backend flash. https://datazap.me/u/tnilson/map-3-pull-2500-rpm?log=0&data=1-4 |

Tune Versions
Is there a place where we can see what the versions of the tunes and changes are?

MHD Tuning How does the MHD BEF compare to a flash tune in terms of performance? I have the JB4 and was contemplating going BEF route, but now I'm not so sure. I thought the BEF was effectively the same as a full flash, but with the logging capability of JB4 and ability to go meth later (using JB4 as the meth controller). What am I missing? |

The first note is that I did struggle with understanding the BEF instructions because of outdated info in the MHD app PDF instructions sheet. It referenced an older N54Tech page which referenced instructions that are not applicable to the B58 engine. The second source of confusion is due to an update in the JB4 app which removes the nomenclature of FUD as a selectable option. It's called something else now in the app but all the instructions and posters still were referring to FUD or "Future Use D". Secondly, after I sorted through all of that, I did complete the flash on the first try. I'm confident that I did everything correctly, took about 19 minutes to flash (using the hardwired connection), got all of the same dash messages and in-app "Success!" messages that the instructions reference. Once I completed the flash, I started working with Terry, sending him logs and getting feedback on pulls. He worked me up to Map 4, then backed me down to Map 3. I was running about E30/E40. I didn't have an ethanol test kit at that time so I can't be sure of the exact blend. He was responsive and quick but didn't give me a lot of info on the logs I sent him, just "Looks good, try Map X next". I drove the car on the BEF for a couple of weeks but I wanted to understand the logs more myself, so I started posting on the Log Review thread in F30post and immediately got some feedback that the logs didn't look great. Consensus was that they didn't really look like flash tune maps, they kinda looked like JB4 maps with unsafe AFRs. At that same time, I had already decided that I was going to order an upgraded fueling system so I started talking with Wedge Performance. Based on feedback from them, I decided to remove the JB4 and go with an OTS map until the fuel system arrived and I was ready to do a custom tune with Wedge. I never did send the logs in question to Terry to get his input. I never reached out to MHD to see what they had to say, I just ripped out the JB4 and flashed the MHD OTS map. I've attached some screenshots of the conversation with Wedge that ended up influencing my decision. I don't want to start a pissing match over the comments with BMS or anyone else- I've always been a fan of JB4 and have owned several on different platforms and they've always delivered a great driving experience. That being said, they are a piggyback only and we all understand the limitations. I'll also note that initially I wanted to go the JB4 BEF route because it appealed to the 'sunk costs' part of my brain. I already owned the JB4- all I had to pay was the $249 for the MHD license and I could save $200 bucks by using the JB4 logging function and the JB4 maps. But here's what really happened: I bought the bimmergeeks K+DCAN cable for $50 to do the MHD flash I bought the MHD license for $249 I didn't have a bluetooth adapter for the JB4 so I bought that for $140 to log with I ended up ditching the JB4 so I bought the MHD monitoring function for $99 and the MHD wifi adapter for $69 I bought the MHD OTS Stage 2 E30 map for $99 I ended up selling the JB4 with the bluetooth adapter for $350 So you can do the math on that because it's too painful for me and I'll probably hang myself if I do lol (probably also worth mentioning that I originally bought the JB4 less than 2 months before MP came out with the flash tune and I've still never really gotten over that, either) tl;dr I had bad luck with the JB4 BEF but gave up on it right away. I never sent the logs that the forum was concerned about to Terry or MHD. I made a series of decisions on additional items to purchase that ended up costing me hundreds of dollars more than it should have because I'm an idiot. The best advice I can give you or anyone else in the future that stumbles onto this sad story is that it's important to know up front what your long term mod plan is going to be for the vehicle and make decisions today that support where you want to be 1-2 years from now. Yes, things will change along the way as new advancements come out, but if you don't have a plan, your mods will always end up being little deadends that you have to backtrack, remove, and purchase a different path later. And that gets expensive.

Any updates on latest update from BMW locking the DME?
My car was recently at the dealership and received latest update? I am afraid to even try to flash map back on to my car? Thanks
