Cold starts (even if disabled) with BM3

I'm currently with Bootmod3 stage 2 Oct 91 with cold start deleted. Most of the time, everything is fine, but on a random occasion, when I start the car it's still gonna do a cold start. And my DP being catless, it's quite obnoxious when that happens. And OF COURSE, this has to happen early in the morning; waking up the whole neighborhood.

This is getting annoying to the point where i'm considering my options. Even if that means going with another tune option. I hate to be "that guy" that bugs my neighbors.

I thought of reflashing with the latest version of the map; but knowing that everything was fine for months (and no reflash since i've installed the DP) makes me think there might be something else.

Is this ever happened to anyone before? Found a fix to your problem?

Thanks for sharing if you have any history with a similar problem.

Do DME to Stock then reinstall Stage 2 RON91.

I did, but with the same version of the flash I had; which was fine; until recently.

But flashing back to OEM; then with the new Stage 2 map is what i'm going to try next. But even if I know this will probably fix it, i'm more curious about "why".

Not really a solution but if it does still do a cold start, very lightly press the gas pedal. And I mean very lightly, you'll see when you do it. Shuts it right up. I'm straight piped turbo back and i do that every morning. It's annoying to sit there until the cold start is over, but at least I'm not that guy lol

I did the cold start delete on BM3 S2, and have never had the cold start return. I'd try what other said and go back to stock and back to S2.

Weirdness is typically solved by reflashing.

I reflashed the ECU and everything was good; until yesterday when the cold starts started happening again. I deleted my map; redownloaded a fresh one and reflashed. But this time i've reset my adaptations. Not sure if it'll change anything but still did it anyway.

If this issue comes back, i'll contact PTF directly and if this still fails, i'll start looking for other solutions outside of bootmod3. I'm still puzzled as to why it would perform as intended for some time and then ignore bm3's map settings.

I guess my only option would be to change tune; but I'm still convinced there's a solution to this issue.

Am I the only one having this issue?

Is your startup roar still on? The roar seems to last a bit long on cold days on my car, turn the roar off and should be good. hopefully

It was first at OEM but left it as default for the second flash. That was my first guess also. But to my understanding, the roar only activates when the engine is warm? And my issue only happens when the engine is cold.

Mine happens on startup regardless of engine or external temperatures.

Okay so I also live in a cold weather state. Before I got my garage, on really cold mornings where I haven't started my car for a long time, it would do a normal cold start. On EXTREMELY cold mornings, it wouldn't even do a non-cold start. Literally only goes to 600rpm and stays there until it can safely bring up the rpm.

All of this was with BM3. I think there's another mechanism in place that overrides depending on extreme temperatures. Now that I'm garaged, it does a normal, non-cold start everytime. This is for sure 100% temp related.

I had the exact same experience myself spoke to them, reflashed the same map and it resolved it and hasn't happened since.

I also saw a relation between the morning temp and the cold starts.

I reflashed after my last visit at the dealership and the car was ok for 6-7 days until it resumed the cold starts. I reflashed yesterday with a freshly downloaded map and it now runs ok. Time will tell.

I opened a ticket on PTF's support site in the meantime. Glad to hear that it's a known issue. I first thought there might be a bigger issue than the tune itself. The car is going out of warranty in 6 months.

Nope you're not alone! Luckily PTF responded very quickly to me and they are super helpful so I'm sure they will be able to help you if this doesn't work but I'm hopeful it will for you since it did for me. Computers are weird like that sometimes repetition fixes stuff like this sometimes not.

I think it's quite the opposite. When a code is written to do something it should do it times and times again. There's definitely something that triggers the code to fail under certain circumstances that the initial code wasn't wrote to consider. Luckily these guys are on the ball and hopefully they can improve the map so it deletes the cold starts under all kinds of weather.

Aaaaaaand it happened again this morning. Luckily I already had a ticket opened on PTF's site so i'll update it and update this thread when they successfully find a permanent solution.

Good news is that I apologized to my neighbor about it and he said he didnt ear anything (After a good 20-30 of these loud starts at 7am in the morning); so that's at least that
