Adjusting handbrake, did I miss something?

Hi, my handbrake lever required to be in near vertical position to hold the car so I thought I’d adjust it.
I removed the handbrake cover, pushed back the spring cylinder thing so that it locked.
Then adjusted both sides until I could not spin the wheel, then back three clicks (at 2 clicks there was still some rubbing). Then I released the spring under the handbrake lever and drove out to test it.
Nope, requires at least 10-12 clicks of the handbrake to hold the car.
Did I miss something or why is it so bad?

I have an F31 320D 2013.

The primary point of adjustment is inside the rear rotors. Worn shoes is a possibility.

As above. I recently had to change the shoes on mine as one side had glazed over for some reason. Tried the usual trick of gently pulling the level whilst driving to try clear it but didn't work.
Same as yours, adjusted it but made no difference wouldn't stick unless I really tugged it

Alright you guys might be right, I didn’t even check. I just adjusted them.. Anyway probably need to change all the discs and pads soon so I’ll do do them at the same time. Thanks.

Pull a rotor out and check the brake shoes, they might be worn enough that you need to replace them.
The way I adjust it is 2 clicks on the handbrake, then adjust both sides until I can barely turn by hand or not at all.

Easy job to change the shoes as long as the backing plate isn't rotten.
