I got bored so I painted my enginecover...
Hello everybody,
Last weekend I was bored so I decided to paint my enginecover. I know, I know, it's completely useless because no one except for myself and the mechanic will ever see it, but i had something to do and it was fun. I thought I would 'show it off' here: Sanded, primed, sanded again, sprayed a coarse silver (normally a base for candypaint) for the lettering and started to mask off: More masking... (a tedious pita job) Spraypainted mineral grey to match the car, a few layers of clear, sanded (again) and some more layers of clear: Installed in the engine bay Thanks for watching! ps: I don't have pictures of each step because I wasn't planning on making this thread. Honestly, that's pretty damn cool! Now if we could just make it repel dust and dirt... Lol.

Nice. I thought the first photo was your finished product and was ready to troll and insult you.
But that came out great! |

Thank god I scrolled down - at first I clicked the post - saw the white and blue - and thought to myself "well to each their own I guess - but wow that's really a stretch"
Fortunately I took 20 seconds to read - scrolled down - saw the gray and I feel better now :-) Looks great! |

Thanks for the nice replies everyone!
BunkerJ : well, the paint will make it somewhat easier to clean, so that's something. M2Rush : I'm was actually thinking of doing that... GatorF30and chenry : I would understand that, that white primer and blue tape do look awfull Mouse : I wouldn't call myself the most active person, but, like I said, I was bored. Edit: as requested: As you can see, in the first picture the cover seems a lot darker than the car and in the second it seems a lot lighter. The colour seems of because of the different angles of lighting, but irl they are the same colour. The paint was mixed by paintcode and not really colourmatched with a spectrophotometer. I had it mixed at a local carpaintshop that can fill spraycans. It’s the same paint as I would use in my sprayguns, but I didn’t want to make them dirty for such a small piece. (Cleaning them after use takes a while since I take them apart to clean them properly on the inside too) Nowadays many paintshops can fill spraycans and if there isn’t a local shop that can do this for you, there are many webshops offering this service. |
