Well, registration number anyway. No plate involved. Same number on the plate on the back. Must be legal here.

Saw a much nicer Ferrari while out walking the other night. I've seen a few Astons and Jags, too. I'm wondering if some of them are rich kids going to school here. Lots of those in Champaign back in our neck of the woods. Daddy ships them off to American schools and the kid gets whatever car he wants.

Sadly, but perhaps predictably, the owner is an asshat. He just had to sit out in the parking lot this morning and rev his engine repeatedly to let every one know he was leaving.

Yup, as long as the font, lettering size and colouring are standard and within regs, this is legal. Tends to be used on supercars (or modded cars trying a bit too hard!) as it doesn't ruin the lines of the car, saves weight, etc. A good few vintage cars have this too; in fact, I think UK E-types have no space for number plate housings so are all like this.
