This is why I specced xdrive

Look out the window.
I'm not wanting to start an xdrive/sdrive debate, or trying to start an argument. I just wanted to highlight my main personal reason for "needing" xdrive.

Because it doesn't only rain in winter.

Confidence in pulling out of junctions, etc, quickly in this weather. Not to be a hooligan, but because you can't always see what's coming when they decide they don't need their lights on, or someone still driving like its glorious sunshine at 80mph past junctions..

That said, I've been in my truck the last couple of days in RWD mode and TC off

Wouldn't apologise at all - I haven't had as much fun as I've had the last few days.

It's a cracking drivetrain and I confess I have been driving in Sport + rather a lot. I still maintain that driving my car in the wet is much like driving the sDrive in the dry but with an incy wincy bit more pull.

Last night coming back from Excel Centre, had a 458 behind me coming on A13. I pulled out in spirited fashion (because it was wet and slippery and I needed cheering up). He pulled alongside me at lights for Blackwall Tunnel - was astonished despite my initial sideways movement how I just vanished and asked what the hell it was. My new friend rewarded my trip though the tunnel with on-off blasts of the throttle - I had all my windows down

I even went on a detour this morning to include my favourite roundabout.

Nope, it's not a bad car....

I make excuses to head out in this weather, as you mention, the sport+ "wiggle" is quite entertaining, the nannying kicking in at the same split second you are collecting it back in yourself. I do miss having the choice to hold it out there, but that's probably a good thing..

My sDrive was fine in the rain and never got wayward even though I was pressing on. Epic car with epic drivetrain.

It's primarily my wife's car, I insist on the awd but to be fair she can handle rear drive really well. I'm very confused who now qualifies as the real man in our relationship :-/

Well if she wears trousers and you wear a skirt it's an indicator she's probably "da man."

Phew, I'm "da man" then, she never wears trousers.

They don't fit over her strap on.

Lol my mate said that in hamburg after taking a vertically challenged 'lady' back to the hotel.

However roundabouts and tight ish bends etc are fun when with another BMW, I had my mate complaining for not driving right the other day, was pissing down and left him meandering in the rain.

For most of week I just drive in manual with paddles, drove my mates E90 325 other day and was erm different lol.

I also need to start avoiding the M6 toll road, it's just too tempting.

My 435i has been rock solid in this rain, no need for xdrive in the rain even if you boot it

Oh come on now, I could get the traction light on in the 318d loan car I had if I 'booted it'.

It's the whole reason WHY the sDrive cars are so much fun. BUT and it's a big BUT, you can't beat the laws of physics and with high torque and less grip, getting the front wheels to help out WILL improve matters IF you want to proceed forwards as quickly as possible.

The fact that actually the xDrive setup can be quite rewardingly fun in the wet is just an added bonus.

And yes I know what the downsides are......... before everyone starts (again)....

I have an autobahn trip next weekend so fully intend to if weather and road conditions allow!

Never been over 125mph and that sure as hell wasn't on HM Highways. Value my licence so stay under 100.

There's little point in maxing the revs to be honest although having the ACS box has released a bit more up top between 4k and 5k. Still no point in going over 5k. Sport + tends to change up between 4.4k and 4.8k depending on gears.

Must admit have been a bit naughty, om my commute I leave the house at 4 am, quiet dual carriageway and about 140mph, even at 100 mph the car is only showing just over 2k revs, if there was no limiter what would be max speed 170?.
