It’s a grey area really, but personally I wouldn’t bother declaring small changes like those.

One year I tried all the other comparison sites and confused always came out best by a few pounds. Could try directline as they aren’t on the comparison sites.

Always best to check where the OP lives as this is an international forum. Your advice probably doesn't help anyone living in Coventry in the UK.

I just asked Admiral for a quote to add my upgraded 704's, don't think it's adding anything but they want £19.50 for an 'admin' fee, what to change a field on a computer?! So now I'm thinking I'll have to pay £20 every time I do a small upgrade, diffuser, springs, spoiler to follow?! Been with them for years too, may just ask them to waive the fee but not holding my breath...

I rang my insurance company about the grills, MP splitter and blades (Admiral insurance) and they said to me if they are optional extra's then they don't need to be declared. I said I'd fitted them but they didn't seem to mind so didn't have to add them or pay extra.

I'm sure every insurance company is different though.

Well it is, many peoples opinion is you have to declare every change to your car or your insurance will be null and void, but I donít declare cosmetic modifications and have never had a problem claiming, including getting my 330d repaired after someone damaged the boot lid and my replica MP spoiler, and not only did it get repaired under insurance but they actually replaced the spoiler with a genuine BMW MP one!!

Slight high jack but thought people would find it funny. My car insurance is soon to end in June so thought i'd look now to see what the new annual policy would be. Went on confused.com and the cheapest one was £5150!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I'm only 27 (28 in August) but i couldn't believe my eyes, even went onto compare the market and it came out at £1100, luckily i went to admiral direct and it came down to £700 which isn't too bad considering my age and the car.

I had this exact same issue. Asked for it in writing which resulted in a complete U-turn. Had to then detail every factory fitted option. I think their call centre staff must be on such a high turnover rate theyíll say anything to get the sale!

Ha, ha, you're probably right there! Maybe we should start recording our calls to them for training and monitoring purposes

I've rang up a company before, think it was Aviva, asking about the M Performance extras when I was looking for renewal quotes. Initially I was told as they were on the car before I collected it then they did not need to be declared. When I came round to taking the policy out I wanted to make certain on the phone that I didnt have to declare them and was going to ask for them listed on the policy just to cover my back, to which i was told they would be classed as a modification and the price shot up.

In my experience it depends on who you're speaking to on the day. Which is wrong.
