It IS going to look bigger because it IS bigger. The 4er GC rides on the same LWB chassis that the 3er Li and the 3GT do.

Nope. Confirmed to be standard wheelbase.

Really? When was that? I must have missed it.

Reports so far is that it is standard wheelbase. Hoping to confirm that. A 4 GC on a long wheelbase would look pretty silly IMO. The 3 GT can pull off the added length due to it being higher off the ground and more round. The 4 GC will be lower, wider and more chiseled. Hoping the reports are correct.

The 6 GC pulls it off way better... there is something about this design that is just a little bit awkward looking which bums me out because I think the 6GC is absolutely gorgeous and was hoping to feel the same about the 4GC

Looks like a slammed 3series gt, not a big fan.

I think the 4 series is intended to be a different car/line.
It is intended to be a different line, absolutely. But it's pretty well documented, from BMW, that 4 is the coupe and there will be no 3 coupe. Intended to stand out from the 3 more like the 6 stands out from the 5, yes. But there will be no 3 series coupe any longer. That's not my opinion, that's what BMW has said, officially. The '4' instead of '3 coupe' is both marketing strategy and a way to further make it stand out on its own, like the 6 does from the 5 despite their similar size.

The 4 is no more different compared to the F30 3 series than the E92 was from the E90. Both were intended to be more aggressive, 2 door versions of their sedan sibling. Both noticeably different going down the road, but both clearly siblings.

The 'Gran Coupe' thing is an entirely different animal. Like the article said, it's the sedan version of the coupe version of the sedan… Kind of silly really. But then again, I love the 6 Gran Coupe But truth be told, the Gran Coupe is truly based on the coupe, not the sedan variants. It's not like the 6GC nose looks like a 5 series… and from these pics, the 4GC has the same nose as the 4 coupe..

We've only seen maybe 3 poorly edited pictures so far.

+1. I want a 6GC that isn't so damn big.

Yes it's about the same size as the F30 but whatever optical illusion is at play just makes the car look big. The 6 series gran coupe that was there seemed to be about the same size as the 4er but as we know the 6er looks way better.

The 6GC is almost 4" longer than the 5 series, which puts it about 15" longer than the 3 and 4 (which are the same length, btw). I don't think I would say in a million years that the 6GC even looks the same size as a 4 series coupe, not even close. The 6GC looks awesome and sleek despite it's massive size, but as small as a 4? no way. The thing is only 2" shorter than a 7!

I'm intrigued then. I love the slightly more versatile nature of a hatchback for storage versus a regular trunk.

Do the 4GC bashers really think BMW would spend the time/money/resources to create the 4GC if it was a near-identical product to the 3 series sedan?

It will be distinct. The fact that some people want one and others don't is proof of this.

^this

The issue is not what the numbers say, it's how the optics play out in real life. The 6 GC appears small. The 4 appears to be big, it's not as well executed as I would have preferred.

Wow... Yahoo hasn't scooped a story in 14 years, good for them. Some of those pics make it look pretty sharp but again, something about it just doesn't quite do it for me like the 6 GC

Somewhere along the development they went from planning to use the Li platform to the normal f30 wheelbase i can only assume based on alot of original details spyed, so now the trunk looks chopped and abit too short compared to the front end. Will need to see in the metal but like most was hoping for a true GC like my 6er, just abit smaller...

It looks too tall. The height makes the car appear bloated not sleek and sexy.
