Dragy issues

So when I bought the Dragy I knew there were some reports of DOA units and lots of hate about the app, so I was a little bit apprehensive when I received it last week. Imagine how happy I was when it fired up without issues and connected to the app on the first try.

But, it was short-lived. Took it to Wisconsin for a road trip, used it out there with no issues. Brought it home today and it's dead tonight. Won't charge, won't connect. No lights on the unit will turn on, no matter what I do.

Anyone else have a similar experience?
I bought it through Amazon - should I try to get support through Dragy (I've heard this is dicey), or just say fuck it and initiate a return/exchange through Amazon?

I've read about faulty batteries on Dragy, but never about other issues. Just return and get a new one... can happen to any piece of electronics.

P.s. My only "problem" with Dragy is that it measures noticeably higher times than M Laptimer and I cannot find a good explanation. (the delta is beyond what could be explained with a difference in the GPS sampling rate and always in one direction - Dragy higher, Laptimer lower)

If no Red light when connected to a charger that's a big problem unless it's already fully charged, hope you didn't use a fast charger as the Dragy battery is very small and could get damaged.

Try charging it with slow charging like a laptop or PC or the car's USB.

Also try the following before returning it:

Make sure your location services is ON while connecting to Dragy.
Make sure your phone is not connected to a WiFi device as the Dragy needs Internet access to connect, when I connect to my MHD WiFi adaptor my Dragy doesn't work.

If all this don't' work I would say return it to Amazon.

On the other hand, I bought one of the refurb units from BMS and it's been working fine. Every once in a while I have to plug it in to get it to connect, but other than that no issues with connectivity.

The latest (iOS) version of the app does not show battery percentage any longer I have also noticed the percentage on mine was never too stable.

My unit seems to connect fine, but the app crashes all the time. My video freezes etc. I've tried support but no real luck.

That sounds like an app / mobile device issue.
iOS or Android...?
Never done video and my app has crashed once or twice, but generally - stable.

IOS all up to date, newer phone. Tried deleting and re-downloading, new profile, updating etc. The new update has made it a bit more stable but still seems to crash. It works well enough to get some runs in so, all good.

I thought mine was bad so I bought a new one. New one had the same problem. Turns out I just needed to delete and re-install the app (iOS).

Some other GPS systems like VBOX use a 1' roll out on time to speed making their results inaccurate. Dragy excludes a roll out on time to speed but does include that faster reading in the bottom of the slip for reference.

I am talking about a difference of between 0,2 and 0,4 sec between Dragy and BMW Laptimer.

Not saying I don't trust Dragy's reputation. I am just yet to find a reasonable explanation for the delta. Laptimer is using GPS + car data.

I think the lap timer uses gps for position and the speedometer for speed. The speedo is inaccurate so it will read faster. I have GPS in my radar detector and the speed matches dragy. At 100mph my speedometer reads ~103mph.

I have thought about that too, but it doesn't make sense to use the speedometer for speed and not the GPS speed, but if we assume it does:

I think the real GPS speed by indicated on the speedometer 100 km/h is around 97 km/h... Would 3 km/h difference account for up to 0,4 seconds difference in the measured 0-100 time...?

There is a systematic error somewhere. If it was an accuracy issue (e.g. sampling rate, etc.), I would have readings both higher and lower than the Dragy times. the fact is though the Laptimer reading is always lower than the Dragy. Typically by 0.2-0.4 sec.

I have once also used a third party app (Race Timer) which is purely phone-GPS based and it gave consistent results with the Laptimer - again lower than Dragy. That should exclude the speedometer theory, but I only tried it on 2 runs, so not enough data in order to be certain.

One experiment I am yet to perform is to set up dragy to measure custom 0-97 km/h time and compare that to Laptimer.

Don't worry Jeff Bezos won't be bothered costing him $150

Just make sure you don't use a high watt charger when you get the new Dragy.

Also did you manage to get any times with the old Dragy ?

Oh if it's using OBDII data and not high speed GPS data then it's never going to be accurate, throw that data set out the window.

Unfortunately not, weather and time availability wasn't conducive before we left for WI. New one should be here Friday so I'll do some work with it this weekend

You can see over 1s difference between 100-200km/h and 60-130mph times, and that's only 8mph difference. Wheel size will affect it if you change them. Also stock tune will show a bigger difference than an aftermarket tune. So really it depends on your setup.
