I know it works, but it would be much easier to see a message on kombi. Cause if you have to check te light on the button on the side that just stupid

I opened up my m sport steeringwheel today and it looks like everything needed is already in there. The control unit is already hooked up to the heater and the MF buttons and i’ve got two wires that go into the switch unit. The switch unit doesn’t have any pins in the socket because I don’t have any of the driving aids (it’s a retrofitted steeringwheel). Only thing is, according to the pn (61317849445), the control unit is originally made for a f25 x3... would this be a problem?
Is it correct that I only need a new switch unit (I don’t want to fiddle with the airbag, I want to do this as oem as possible), a switch, the trim and the two wires (1 to fem and 1 to fusebox)?

Sorry for the crap picture, that’s the result of resizing for upload...

Edit:
Does it matter wich switch unit I buy? By this I mean, does it have to be the one that supports heated steeringwheel and rainsensor only or can I buy a “full option” one in case I ever want to retrofit the driving aids (wich I prob. won’t...)

Buy the full option one.

Putting a control unit part not made for your model has the potential to cause issues when Dealer connects up to the system.

Check realoem to make sure your part is compatible.

Thanks for the reply.
I’ve been driving around with that control unit for two years now without any issues though...
I have a service planned next week. I’ll ask them if they can find anything out of the ordinary. If they can i’ll change it, if not i’ll risk it. If it doesn’t work i can still swap it out.

What do you have to code in the 6wb cluster to get the heated picture on the dash?

Hi everyone, I am trying to do this retrofit on my 2016 f30 with the sportline steering. Currently i have paddle shifters and the vibration motor for lane departure warning. I just bought a wheel without airbag that has vibro, heating, and paddle shifters. I am little confused on what other part numbers i need. From what i understand, I dont need the steering column switch cluster because i already have lane departure warning. i am guessing i need the button, the trim panel, Connecting Line, double leaf spring contact and bushing/socket contact. But i am not sure if i need the steering wheel electronics module. If i need that, i cant seem to figure out the part number i need since my new wheel is still the regular wheel not the m sport wheel the op has posted about.

The wheel I bought is this one if this helps. My current wheel looks exactly like that except it doesnt have heated function

Hi,

I see you used 18 gauge wire, wich is app. 1mm2. In the bmw schematic they use 0,75mm2 (see below), wich is in between 20 and 21 gauge. Is there a reason you used a thicker wire?
Since bmw uses the thinner wire i’m assuming this would be safe to use myself? Or am I missing something?

Kind regards,

I performed this retrofit last night but have not coded yet. Would I expect the heated wheel and the led on the button to function before coding?

I retrofitted the button to mine, the car had lane assist, so all I needed was the button. With no coding, was surprised to see it displayed 'heated wheel on' in the dash, not sure about the light on the button. But there wasn't any heating happening.

Then coded it with Bimmercode as follows:

FEM_BODY
3140 PFLinSteeringWheel
CODDT_BYTE_00_SZL_LIN = LHZ_aktiv
LIN_VARIANTE_LRE = lre_tlc_lhz
LIN_VARIANTE_SZL = szl_4Band
LRE_Verbaut = aktiv

Suddenly everything worked, just in time for Summer ...

Just completed this upgrade. I now get the lighted switch and the display on the dash, however there is no heat. I also get an error message that there is a cruise control error. Paddles shifter, horn and other steering wheel controls suddenly do not work as well. BC, turn signal and wipers have no issues.

Thoughts?

I only have bimmer code at the moment because I can not figure out how to use Esys

Where there a S710A M Leather Steering Wheel with vibration but no heating?

Or if there is vibro, then there definately should be heating?

The wheel has both heat and vibro, neither work. O put the original clock spring back in and all other functuons now work, minus heating.

I pulled it all back out, checked all the wires, nothing. I put the original back in, no issues. Perhaps the new cluster/clock spring needs to be coded or it is simply kaputt

If the paddle shifter and horn aren't working, that indicates a problem with the control unit or wiring. Not sure why you fitted a new clockspring, but it sounds like you've replaced a perfectly good one with one that is broken/incompatible. But you don't need to replace the clockspring, so put the original back and code the FEM_BODY, that should get everything working.

In summary, if you have vibration working, then you just need the button, the trim to fit the button into, and you need to do the coding. If you didn't have vibration working, then you will also need a replacement steering wheel control unit.

I've never had working vibration, nor does the car have lane departure. The wheel I purchased with paddles and heat also has the vibro motor but I know this will not work.

Which control unit are you using? The original off the old wheel or the one that came with your replacement wheel?

The original does not support heating, bit works flawlessly. The second one I purchased from eBay, separate from the wheel, is the full version. I now have the original in the car.

Did you replace the wiper and blinker stalk and run new wires? What about coding? Did you get it coded to activate the heating function?

Yes replaced with the ones I got from the donor car. No need to run wires were already present. And yes coded in to fem and hu_entry but not nothing is working on the steering or indicators wipers won’t stop operating.

Put in old steering and still same issue.

All fixed and retrofit complete thanks to Roxxor didn’t have one of the plugs behind the cluster properly connected at first. That fixed the heated steering, indicator , wipers paddle. However for the LCI models the mf and cruise buttons don’t work do need to change. Now have a pre-lci heated & HBA, stalk switch if anyone else dares

Has anyone had there heated steering wraped/retrimmed over Can you still feel the heat?
