Heavily modded 6spd 340xi?
Hi,
I’m curious how many heavily modded 6spd manual 340xi’s there are out in the wild. It seems the transmission isn’t going to hold a ton of power and still be reliable for long...any healthy 600-700hp manuals out there? What is your experience? I was thinking of doing something more tame to start, maybe a BM3 tune, AA catted downpipe, and the 550i/335is clutch....but would like to see how the transmission holds up to more power first. |

We've basically had the same 6MT since E9x, back in 2006/2007 lol (ZF GS6X45BZ). There are N54 and N55 guys pushing a lot of power. Would expect the same to hold true for us.

First of all, it's not about the power, but the torque. According to ZF, the transmission is built to handle 450 Nm. BMW already surpassed it a bit with MPPSK, that is already restricted in torque for manual compared to automatic. It seems nobody knows, if BMW did some significant mods to stock ZF.
What are the torque levels you are aiming at? 700-900 Nm with that power? In my opinion, unless we start speaking of modified Tremec's and similar, no stock manual gearbox can survive that for long... Honestly, I feel the BM3 Stage 1 low rev torque to be a kind of brutal even for ZF auto, but that's just me. See, what others gonna tell you, but the junkyards here are full of Audi & BMW manual transmissions killed by 500-550 Nm from stock 3-liter diesels at approx. 80-100k miles. Interested to hear the experiences, too. |

As was stated our trans is pretty similar to BMWs back to 2007. No one is blowing transmissions due to tunes on the B58. Your bigger concern should be your driveshaft.
The fastest I know of currently is Lui in his Pure800 M240I. He's running a twin disk clutch. https://www.instagram.com/lui.f22/ |
