M3 vs M3 vs M3 vs M3
Shame there was no E36 as that was my first ever M car and I would have liked to have seen how it would have fared against the others.

Pretty clear winner! But I do think these carwow drag races are somewhat ruined by some of the drivers jumping the start in just about every video....It's not that difficult.
EDIT - I would still have the CSL! |

For all the slagging the s55 engine gets it sounded pretty decent in that company actually.

It wasn't a great drag race, with a couple of botched starts by the looks of it, and times not really representative of all, even if results order was as expected.

Agree... the F80 time was around as expected 12.2 at least.. the other times were not as quick as they should have been though

Bruntingthorpe doesn't have a great surface for standing starts, what matters is the difference rather than the times.
Around 12 seconds is just about bang on every other drag I've seen done at Bruntingthorpe for the F80 (any of the variants)

The E46 should generally be Sub 14 seconds too and not almost 15 seconds. That test shows the F80 performed roughly as it should over the quarter on that surface but the other cars did not, it certainly didn't show the real gaps between these cars over the quarter mile distance though. |

I’d like to see a race between a M3/4 CS and a M3/4 Competition Pack.
See if there is actually much difference in performance for your twenty grand.

There is a dyno thread and it seems there is a bit of a difference. Would be interesting to see current Gen, all same tyres:-
M4 Civic (sorry) M4 CP M4 CS M4 GTS This would be a cracking drag race, separated by minimal increments in some places. Seemingly for all the Water Cooling etc GTS to CS for example is almost negligible in a straight line of course. Really this should be about track times but IMO its so hard to make that a direct comparison, even with same driver.

We all know the difficulty of staging a 4 way drag race. What is interesting is that a 140i is equally as quick as an e92 M3 in the standing quarter. Go turbo power. |

Drag time wise, the CS is fitted with cup2's which is an advantage. Clue is in this video where up just seemed to hook up and go. |

There wouldn't be a lot in it but I think the feel would be better as would the drive, the CS has 450lb/ft which is a decent amount more than the CP and it makes more power all the way through the usable rev range, it doesn't just top out at end above the CP.

Here's Top gear with a GTS vs M3 CP.
Seems like an awful start on the GTS, but then it has got stiff suspension which reduces all important weight transfer to rear wheels. |

Doesn't look very good value for money that GTS, how much??? ... I'd Save my money and just get a CP and remap it instead if it was a choice between those 2 cars.

I suspect the GTS will cope a lot better with sustaining those power outputs for extended periods of time on track in a way that the standard ones won't.
