Out of interest... What are the minimum tyre pressures that BMW suggest for the 128 on the 18" "performance" tyres...?

I’ll have to check but if I remember correctly it’s a fairly high 39psi front, 33psi rear. I’ll have a look on the door sticker tomorrow and let you know.

That is what it is on the M135, for sure, before I went down to 36/32... They give some higher ones also, one for an ECO setting and another for more loaded...

The Golf was 40psi and I was always convinced that was too high... The dealer, back then, managed to deliver it to me with 50psi all round... nearly rattled my teeth out..

50psi! That’s ridiculous, you’ve got to wonder if they even checked them as that sounds like delivery pressures. My dealer had mine set to 34psi front, 28psi rear when I picked my 128 up. The TPMS activated on the journey home and that was the first thing to do in the pouring rain when I got it on the drive.

I’m sure the high pressures are more to do with achieving fuel consumption figures than what’s actually right for the car!

Tyre pressures for comfort on my 128 are 39psi front and 32psi rear. ECO pressures are stupidly high and would no doubt reduce the tread depth in the tyre centre in no time at all!

Eco for fuel, not Eco when you're throwing tyres away before their time!

I would need to check the sticker number but I am pretty sure that is the same sticker as on my car...

I, too, think that the recommended tyre pressures are set more for the emissions rather than the car, for instance... Firstly, our two cars have different unladen weights... Secondly, there is no way either of our cars have a 55/45 weight distribution...

I looked at the 36/32 psi setting I tried out last night and they are (give or take 1 psi each way) pretty much spot on for the (reported) 52/48% weight distribution of the 135... Obviously that is not the whole story, but the Golf did not have a dramatic front/rear bias in the pressure recommendations...

Out of interest, I am going to have a look at the sticker on my Folk's car (a 118 sport) and see what that says... That car will be significantly lighter than the 135...

Indeed...

I have ordered an accurate gauge and will be looking at mine closely to see if outer wear is an issue at lower pressures... But folk definitely reporting centre wear on the fronts at recommended pressures...

Nice car

I'm still on the fence between a new 135i and keeping my 440i GC

During the first winter I started to fall out of love with the 440i but now in the summer is great again. I have no doubt the 135i in a lot of cases will destroy the 440i

I'm not really wanting raw power, their both fast cars. Want I'm looking for is fun, sound and engagement

Funnily enough, I found my old 440i GC a more engaging drive in winter than summer, especially as the tyres wore ( I never did change from Bridgestone run flats). Less grip at the rear countered the very under steer biased chassis set up and made it a better drive.

I think my three best drives in the car were:
1. A drive to and up and down Cheddar Gorge with temperatures above freezing and slush on the ground. Tyres almost new.

2. A 170 mile drive from bristol through Wales to Wrexham, blue skies, freezing temps, ice and occasional snow on the ground. Nothing deeper than 1cm. Tyres close to 4mm.

3. Just around 5 degrees and torrential rain one day which made roundabouts more neutrally balanced than normal. Tyres close to 4mm.

In dry conditions, the car always felt like it needed a heavier footed deployment of power and speed to counter understeer. Heavier than I was comfortable giving on the public road. Much preferred it when rear grip had to be treated cautiously.

Fresh from the detailers...

I must say that the polishing has really brought the colour up to a whole new level...

We don't have this series in the US. Size-wise is like the x2? I realize it is not an X, but was just curious about the size. So it is small hatchback? Looks nice. Cool Color.

Simplest description is VW Golf (or is it still Rabbit in the states) or Audi A3 competitor..... if you dont get either of those Ford Focus or whatever you call that escort replacement....

Thanks. We have the Golf here and the others. Seems like a worthy vehicle for the US market, but I guess with so many people liking SUVs, from the small X1 and X2 to the large X7 makes more sense from a sales and marketing standpoint. Even Volvo is pulling out of the non-SUV market. They are pulling their station wagons and only leaving their SUV versions.

The easiest way to think about the size and style of the 1-er is to think of it in the same sort of size/class to the Volkswagen Golf/Rabbit... I would say the X2 is more like a compressed X1 in many ways, and I feel I have more room in the 1-er than I had when I sat in an X2 even though the X2 is 3.5" higher than the 1-er...

The underpinnings of the 1-er are basically the same as the 2 series Grande Coupe that you do get in the USA, just a slightly different rear end treatment...

The 1 series definitely feels more spacious then the X2 inside, it has better rear visibility for sure.

Car looks lovely Dave after the shine up.

X2 chunky hatch looks, I really like it and the post above…hmm owned both and the X2 absolutely has more space.

That looks fantastic after it's detailed, the depth in the paint!.
Lovely car and even though I have an M140i on the drive (I did have 2 and recently chopped one in for a 4401 cabriolet) the new shape M135i is a great proposition.
Having test driven one recently, it makes the older M140i feel very skittish and the M135i seems to put the power down less erratically.
Inside is also a big step up too and I see yours has a cracking spec.
