MST intake heat shield clear cover- DIY
If you have a MST intake, and want to have it on show, but keeping the heat shield- read on!
This mod is not to everyone's taste, but seeing as I saw it once in one of the of the Kies motorsports videos - I assume there is some demand for it. I found the genuine article for the F3x B58 on MST's website by the time I factor in shipping to the UK, that's $85 or £65 just for a bit of plastic. https://www.mst-performance.com/products/cc Time for some DIY! Tool required: 2-3mm Perspex/acrylic, Heat gun, Dremel with cutting disc, drill, File, Sandpaper, Optional: polish (for removing any marks from handling the plastic) Pictures are pretty self explanatory, but to sum it up, 1) Softened the plastic with the heat gun, 2) Molded the sheet plastic to the bend angle of my original heat shield 3) Traced the heat shield to the plastic 4) Dremel out the tracing on the plastic sheet 5) Filed it down to get it to the right dimensions, sand paper the edge 6) Traced the holes which needs to be drilled on the intake itself. 7) Fit and admire the the time well spent not working, but instead on a cosmetic car mod which probably only I will ever see. The one thing i'll say is that, the B58 MST intake cover has loads of tolerance as it only needs to fit flush against 2 sides. Even though I traced the heat shield from the top, I knew it'll still fit as long as the top and right side edges meet the side of the vertical heat shield. Anyway, I'll let the pictures do the rest of the talking, but I hope this mini guide will be of use to others who are wishing to do a little bit of DIY and to keep you smiling whenever you open the bonnet. All the best |
